What type of a glow plug connector fits the Nelson glow plugs, as used on the Q500 ?engine? The plug is much larger than the typical plugs.
Where may I buy one?

SPD-10
Glo-Clip
All Metal Glo-Clip
11.00
Other wise it is possable to use a standard single cell glo ignitor by holding it on with one hand while you spin the stater with the other hand if you have someone else hold the model. I watch this happen every race I go to by a competitor

Also, Thunder Tiger makes a plastic clip similar to the metal one Darrol Cady sells but the quality is no where near as good.

Thank you both for steering me. The $11 standard clip will do fine. Alligator clips will do until the clip arrives.
I was reading about the inserts for the APC props. I don't understand what function they perform, unless they are drill guides. I usually ream out and balance.

Inserts for the APC props. With 1/4 inch shaft on the Jett as js3 mentioned, no problem but when you drill or ream for the 5/16 Nelson its difficult to get the hole perfect for balence purposes. If you look in the shaft hole in an APC pylon prop you will find that the 1/4 inch size only goes half way through the prop with the other half a larger hole. These inside diameters are accurate for our purposes but when you drill or ream the smaller diameter to 5/16 it is difficult to maintain that holes accuracy. The inserts are perfectly machined to fit a nelson shaft and that larger inside diameter on the prop. Using the rings will maintain balence much better than drilling or reaming. The insert stays on the engine untill time for disassembly so its a simple matter to drill out that small hole to clear the shaft and the accurate larger hole fits perfectly over the insert ring. Cheap and worth doing.
I use a radio south pro driver with the metal aligator clip that darrol sells. The pro driver is wonderful an uses instant varable current automatically will clear out a flooded plug with no imput from you. A valuable tool for the racer who has one minute to start, needle and get into position for takeoff.

John,
Thanks for the clear explanation, now I understand. I was about to start reaming my APC's. I've been using a Jett 50 FIRE but I had a chance to pick up a Nelson Q500 so I thought I would see what revs it would turn. I sport-fly Q500 and deltas so I don't have the 1-minute urgency to start. Is an APC 8.75 x 9 about right for the Nelson?

The 8.75x9 is a good safe starter prop. I usually use the 8.8x9.0 or the 8.8x9.25 depending on the WX and elevation. I,am no engine man but you will love that engine, just crank, pinch test and go they are very user friendly considering their performance. Expect to see somewhere around 19 to 19,5 static. They unload in flight considerably.

Yes,
Start at about 500 rpm on the rich side, and as you get more familiar with it you can slowly work down to about 300 rpm on the rich side if you are using a bladder tank. If you are using a standard tank, I would stick at about 500 to the rich as it will lean out as you start to run low on fuel. Not sure what tank your using, but a 6oz tank will be good for about 2 1/2 minutes so bring a lot of fuel.
