Jerry runs 80% Expo and 1" on low and 2" on high. I do not have that much throw on mine and it is plenty fast. About 3/4" on low and 1 1/2" on high with 80% expo. I need more throw on the rudder to get it to SPLAT the way his does. I am also planning on getting bigger arms to get the 1" -- 2" throws.

Well I have had to do some other things like work! All the components are now made and just need to push ahead for final assembly. Here is the motor mount. I recessed the screws so I could get the webra as far back as possible. Also I have since added some triangle stock along the firewall and 1st rib projection for added support of the balsa skin.

Finished hatches. Plenty of clearance for the Dubro heavy duty servo arms.

Have not hooked up the control rods, horns, but have played with the programming a little..

I will add some tapered stock to the back quarter of the wing tip on my next one, to make covering easier.

Should I use ailevators or elevons?

I am keeping throws conservative to start with..

to check the CG, can I use a straight line from the center, out to the wing tip, off of the CG point, to check balance?

I also thought about carving balsa wing tips but went ahead as per plans since I had not done this type of tip before. I plan on adding some flames to the leading edge back. Yes throws will be conservative. I will be using Elevons. Yes you should be able to balance alone a line out from the CG point. I'm off tomorrow and hope to finish it.

Mine is Fluorescent Lime Green with a medium blue bottom, which includes some blue flames on the topside. Good luck with your first flight!

Made a template mirror imaging the top and bottom. Cut it out with ALOT or razor blades.

Man Those Flames look awsome! Did you free-hand those or did they come in a pattern or what?

Well finally done. Final weight 50oz and that included 1oz nose weight to balance.

It's a keeper. Went to the field yesterday and went over everything with Dan Stevens. Elevon function used at 50% mix with 100% Exponential. We turned down the throws and I have to measure them again for reference. Dan did the test flight and the Outlaw only needed a couple of clicks of up elevator and right aileron. Second flight I flew it and the plane is very controllable without it getting ahead of you. I really appreciated Dan's advice as well as Azarr's and other tip's people have given. I tried to get a pic of a flyby but all you saw was a yellow Blur. This is one fun plane to have. Pete

Hey Pete -

I am glad you finished and got to fly it. I really like mine to. I wish I had a tread like this when I built mine.....it would have made it a lot easier. I am sure many future builders will thank you for your efforts here and all of the great pictures!!!!!

Now go out and see if you can get it to do the Jerry Smith SPLAT!

i tried doing the Splat, but the poor Magnum 36 and pipe was popping at over rev on the way down, spun well tho. went for new bearings a few days later
on that engine and Weston Uk pipe, 10x4 APC for fun and stunts, Master 11x4 for prop hanging and low level low speed fun.
cant imagine having my radio bay that tight

Like I said I really appreciated the feedback. I can't wait to hear how Rob made out with his E version. Some added thoughts. I will be adding a dark bar across the bottom for better visibility.

Glad to hear you had a successful maiden flight!

I am really nervous about mine, since this is my first time with such a performing plane.

Mine is 20 oz heavier than yours, which is something you have to accept with E power. I think the rpm's are around 13K, which should give it plenty of thrust with the 8-6 prop and the 2.5 degree yoke... (Folding prop) ... I will probably fly mine this weekend, or the first of next week... Will have pics back in the morning, will post tomorrow night. They will make you feel really good about your building skill!!

reduce the colours, reduce the bite rate you save at, and save as Jpeg, reduce the un-needed frame of the pic, just have subject. it all asves space. my big saver on pics i post here, i save as 50% quality Jpeg
