Uhmmmm...crickets....
I'm not ready for a while for a REX. Besides that, I'd most likely go with .30 nitro (God...I hate fuel mess). Besides that...how can I possibly justify something bigger when I can't do anything cept hover and right/left side in hovers, walk the helicopter dog, and fly the most basic of pattern? Besides that...I just spent the last 2.5 days getting it handed to me by my DX6 with collective problems. I just finished out my last problem...a floaty tail (bad tail motor). I got this pig running SWEET right now. My last hover was a perfect 5ft in one spot till the battery got weak. Next couple of days are supposed to be very light wind/no wind with temp nearing 50deg. Looks like something will get air time.

Uh oh! At the rate you guys are buying those T-Rex's this CP thread is going to have no one left to participate!
Oh well, I'm used to talking to myself anyhow!
I'll be checking your build thread often Arrow.
Looky: Was this an impulse buy or had it been planned?
Barrick: How is your T-Rex coming?
Dave, Crash, Wick, and everyone else: Who's next to buy a T-Rex!!??

I'll miss you guys!!!!
Nah...., just having some fun! Glad to see you guys stepping it up. I'm not ready to invest that much into heli flying just yet, maybe next year.

Light winds? Outdoors? I'm Jealous!
I'm expecting a Nor'easter this weekend. Looks like indoor hovering for me.
I rebuilt my CP tonite after my last outdoor adventure. Among the other parts I listed yesterday, I replaced the tail motor thinking that should cure my "Skid 360" when spooling down. Nope, still does it. The new tail motor is definately stronger but I stilll have the same issue. I got to think about this one!

I dont understand that. Mine holds like a stone (when the pig is operating correctly). Not unless your gain is too loose or tight but I know you checked that. If the wind is 5-7mph...I fly the L2 (AKA ParkZone J3 Cub with military paint job). If it's light and vairable...out comes the Pro for a little front yard action. Looking to get one more hover tonight here in the basement and call it good. Gotta order a few more tail motors and another Main....SPARES man!

I've been meaning to ask you about your J3. The way it is painted, it looks like an L19 "Bird Dog" the military used to use. Was that the same as a J-3 only designated differnetly since it was military? I can't remember.

Painted up like a L2 Taylor Craft with invasion stripes on the fuse and wings. I think the L-19 was a cessnia.

RICK RESPONDS : as far as moving ON.....the T-REX is, [ at least for me,] a project that will extend way into the future. I am STILL not able to FF or make turns with the PRO, much less with the Yellow CP so I am going to be around HERE for quite a while yet. To further explain my philosophy for advancement : I believe that it is not worth getting involved with a project unless one takes it from the TOP... and so I am SLOWLY accumulating all the BEST POSSIBLE parts for the T-REX....I still have to buy MOTOR / ESC / GYRO and LIPO....getting TopOftheLine items is expensive, hence, the WAIT. i.e. Motor : 430L-3550Kv / Gyro: JRG500T Ring / already got the set of the recommended JR servos, and so on....I believe that buying the cheaper stuff actually turns the project more EXPENSIVE....I also know from long experience that the better the model is built/ quality pays off and the operation is much improved.... so I am going from the top with this T-REX, maybe slower......[sm=thumbs_up.gif][sm=spinnyeyes.gif]-.-.- SUMMARIZING HERE : With the TREX SA ARF still boxed, the DX-7 system is here already with the 6100 RX - 3 JR 285 and 1 JR 3400G for the tail, that's all. Now I will Flight TEST the 6100RX in a ParkFlyer and FlightTEST the DX-7 radio system with a Big Biplane. Once I know everything operates well, by that time EVERY ITEM should be proofed and SAFE for the REX. I got hooked for a Trex during a visit in Dallas, where I stood next to a fellow who was operating one and I had truly never witnessed such perfection in a small, CLEAN, SILENT, perfect package. Had to get one.....and AYE did !---------
Small example that kinda proves my point : I find that LEARNING is easier with the PRO than with the CP Yellow........!! catch my drift ? as a rule, the higher COST yields HIGhER QUALITY in performance......
Am I right ? or maybe terminally stupid ????...........[:-]

Mr....you couldnt have said it more accurate. I knew I had to have a CP Pro to get anywhere. The yellow CP is more difficult for me to fly than the pro. After wrestling with my DX6 and it's inherient collective problem and getting that fixed, I stripped the lights off, took the training wheels off...wow...what a difference. Keeping it close to stock is the way to go. The only "bling" left on mine are the superskids...they stay because I like them. They do a justice and serve a purpose. I just came off a hover that was smooth as glass. I'm still a little light in the nose even with the battery stuffed way up there but it don't effect flight to any degree of consern. Need to get this pro out to the field where I can put it up and FLY it. It is like a plane because the faster forward you go...the more lift. Heli's hover to land and take off...not fly. I'll stick around the Wheeeeeee thread, and check on ARROW and the rest on the new thread now and again. I have no intention in deserting this thread. Wunk still has problems, as does Wick and whoever else shows yp or sticks around....I'm here for you!

an old dog doesn't stray far from home.... so I'll still be reading the Wheeeee thread as well.
wnuk,
The trex was planned. I spent the last few weeks researching the different models. I decided with the S series because of the CCPM and direct to swash. Originally, I was looking at the SA like barrick got... but then was looking at the the CF S... and finally decided the SE was the best deal (plus my LHS gave me a great discount).
My first thought was to get the 450 SA and put the S75 servos, G90, and AR6100 (from my CP Pro). learn how to fly it and then move to the SE... but decided to go all the way and start with the SE, fully loaded with Hitech 65HB's, and a solid tail with Futaba S9650, and GY401.
why put go kart mechanics on a ferrari?
I'm still thinking about the 450 SA with CP Pro electronics for "training"

What started out as a simple lookit what I got thread has turned into the second highest and fastest growing one in the Eflite sector! You guys are my pals and also my sounding board for all of my projects! Bigger doesn't always mean moving away, just expanding. I still have the original CP and intend to keep it and continue working with it. It has been my inspiration and passion for over 4 months now, not forgotten, just one of many new and exciting endeavors.................... OK...the DX6 in detail. I've read that it has an inherient problem in the programming of the CCP (collective). I have had the problem twice except this time it took longer to figure out because it looked like a bad main motor or maybe pitch servo. I struggled with it for a couple days and figured it out today. With this problem...collective is sticky or will not engage correctly. My heli slammed it's self into the floor repeatedly and hopped around nearly uncontrollable (this is when it absolutely was at it's worse). It's a gradual thing that gets worse as the programming goes in the radio. I had re-set my bird many times to compensate but didn't realize it was happening. After watching the Pro slam it's self into the floor during hover, I decided to do a re-boot of the radio. I re-booted, re-entered all the parameters, and then re-bound with the RX. The results were amazing. From a fully closed throttle...I have ZERO pitch in my normal setup. After the re-boot/rebind I had about 5-7 degree neg pitch at closed throttle, so I had to set up the head all over again. Since...hands off hover. No training wheels...she's that stable. The first sign I dropped collective was that the pitch servo stripped it's self right out, and I changed it. Then the setup problems just snowballed on me from there till I finally realized I was dealing with a DX6 problem...not a heli problem. Horizon disavows anything is wrong with the DX6, but there is a problem with the CCP area of programming in this radio...I'm not the first to experience it. I'll be more apt to re-booting if I ever start seeing collective problems again. The radio is working fine...till it drops CCP. The all haties breaks loose. I will be calling Horizon to see if they've got a fix. I'm thinking the main processor has to be changed out to correct the problem.

Yep and my heli's have some problems too! I hope we can keep Wnuk out of the big house long enough to learn to fly.

Like Dave...we all have a tendency to get more pokers in the fire than we can deal with at one time. I'm glad to see the gang is still all here. ALSO...ANYONE WHO OWNS A DX6...READ MY POST. This is a REAL problem! I will be contacting Horizon early next week to see if they are replacing processors at no charge or if they just continue to insist there is no problem (that cost me two servos this week).

OK Guys, Ive been flying r/c for 40yrs. And have a 60 xcell left in my coral ,which i can do anything with.
Years ago i had a EP, when i had my hobby shop .. 800.00 of hovering junk, But for the times i guess it was ok..
My question, will i like the CP PRO or think its a toy.. For the $$$ seems to be the best out there.
TREX is nice but $$$$. Rather crank up the xcell..

Brushless question. I am thinking of converting to a BL main motor. I already have an EF 20 amp speed control, so I am looking for a motor. I am on a kind of tight budget, so I was looking at the HDX 300 motor for $25. Will this motor work ok, or do yall have any other recommendations? (preferably more inexpensive than the EF 370 BL). Also will a 9T pinion be a good starting point for a BL setup. So far this heli is all stock except for a DD tail and Optic 6 TX. Thanks in advance for your advice.

After buying and flying a T-REX 450SE the CP wasn't much fun but still very much the right size for the front yard. So I recently installed seperate components and now it hovers like the T-REX. I tried it for the first time this morning and it flew well. It needs the Bell Hiller blade grips which I have ready to install; response is sluggish compared to the REX. The Berg 7P receiver, E-Flite 3-in-1 and G90 gyro work great. I left the pitch curve at -2 deg. to +8 deg. in normal and -8 deg. to +8 deg. in idle up 1, 2 and throttle hold. The Tx. is a JR XP7202. I have the stock geared single tail motor protected by the CP rocks voltage limiter [link]http://bladecp.corocks.com/[/link] which extends the TM life somewhat. I'll be back to flying my Blade CP a lot more often now!

Hey Crash,
I've had the DX6 problem before so I will be interested to hear what they say.
Have you found a fool proof method to reset it? Mine reset when I moved one of the ccpm mix channels to 0 or maybe -1. I didn't have to change anything else on the setup after that. I havent been able to reproduce the condition so I haven't verified that it works.

HELLO WORLD :
I am going to offer a short recap of my experiences with 300 series Helis to possibly give some guidance for some beginner's questions :
I am a VERY EXPERIENCED R/C flyer (planes) with more than 50 years flying ( 1954! )
20 years ago I was able to Hover the first Collective Heli ( GMP COBRA) for a total of maybe 5 flights. I had no mixes, no gyros, nothing other than 5 regular servos and a 4 channel radio, that was my total experience with helicopters. Fixed pitch was impossible for me to fly (Cricket Heli) and then I gave up helicopters for longer than 20 years. Five (5) blade strikes due to disconnecting balllinks at + 200 $$ + each fix, made me quit for real....![:-]
Four months ago I purchased the EFLITE series ( CX-2 - CP and CP-PRO) thinking that the serial progression would apply ( Easy - Intermed. - Advanced )
The CX-2 was mastered immediately. Moved up to the CP and although hard to do, was able to sustain some HOVER - Experimenting with the PRO discovered that it is actually EASIER to sustain hover than with the CP <Yellow>
All 3 helis have been perfect OUTOFTHEBOX and still are, even after 4 months of flying. Small improvements only were applied ( SuperSkids - better blades).
SUMMARY : I think I have been particularly blessed with good fortune in that all the machines have been perfect from the get-go.......I have not done anything other than practice flying.
Maybe the story of my personal experience will be used as a GUIDE for a beginner.
I WOULD repeat this experience. It has been good. Must mention that having found this THREAD AND ALL THE FRIENDS IN IT has been a SPECIAL GIFT. Here you will get EXPERT GUIDANCE, HELP, SUGGESTIONS, and most of all ENCOURAGEMENT.
Stick around ........ LAISSEZ LES BON TEMPS ROULER !!!!! .....(Louisiana ! )

Personally, I think you'll think it's a toy. A CP-Pro is NOT really 3D serious out of the box. It can do it but with limitations. In order to have a serious performer, it has to be upgraded to brushless motor/gryo etc...adding $200+ to the cost of the unit. But then again...you might like it. I have found them to be labor intensive and expensive. When they're running good...they are great. When they're not...it's heck getting them fixed because causes are harder to determine and one problem looks like something else. For something to mess around the yard with...YES CP-Pro is the best one STOCK that you can buy at this point. Stay away from Walkera!!!

The problem is intermittent and don't happen that often. When it does....It's horrible! Haven't found a fool-proof way to re-set it. I just dump...re-enter parameters, and re-bind.

I've had the DX6 problem before so I will be interested to hear what they say.

crash,
I'm interested in your DX6 experiences... I know you'll continue to share, thanks!
I also, agree with the upgrades. The CP Pro with programmable TX and G90 gyro make a world of difference and think they are more of a requirement then an option.
barrick,
old friend, you summed it up great! I too have purchased the E-Flite helis (CX, CX2, CP, and CP Pro) brand new out of the box and have been very happy with the "Out of Box" experience. I have found E-Flite to be an excellent product
FOR THE PRICE, (you get what you pay for!)
However, my inexperience as a pilot (I've only been flying helis for about 5 months, and these are my first helis) quickly realized, these helis are only ready to fly out of the box.....
until you CRASH,
and if these are your first helis....
it's inevitable, you will crash.
(except for our amazing friend Rick)
Then,
one of two things will happen;
1) you will quickly become engrossed into the world of micro heli mechanic,
OR
2) you will sell your heli!
For those of you who choose the first path, this is a great thread to follow!
For those of you who choose the second path, someone reading this thread will have probably bought your heli!

I am not liking this DX6 issue yer talking crash.............. I just got everything set up, don't make me switch out to my futaba. The collective thing is pretty scary, thats the major basis of flight for a CP heli. I too am interested in what you find out and if its an issue with ALL DX6's of just limited to a certain production string(IE from March 2006 to Aug 2006).
Wnuk........ I know you were making light of abandonment from this thread and I was just responding to let everyone know that even if I have more pokers in the fire I am still comitted to this thread first! I took no offense and wasn't growling about it, I was simply reinforcing my comittment to what started all this and how far it has come! I am immensly proud of this one and the amazing amount of hits it has gotten.........20,000 and almost 2000 posts! We are the hot topic here and that can't be accomplished without all of the great contributors to it! [sm=thumbs_up.gif]

Burned all three batteries...charging the last one back up now. I'll see if my re-boot holds this time. Went outside earlier...ended up throwing some mud and taking out the main rotor shaft (there goes my last spare). Maybe I'll get off my butt and devise a straightener now since I got 3 bent ones.
