To make it worse, i keep getting redirected to the app center on my iphone and the webpage gets redirected to an adtracker website. Completely random and im just about ready to quit using rcu all together.

With the dumb-ass idea that IB had to incorporate these ridiculous and trashy ads, the only recourse we have is to not click on them (as we already don't do). Then, due to the lack of traffic generated from this site, those companies will pull their ads as they see it is a waste of time for them.

Also remember, every time someone clicks one of those ads, it develops revenue for RCU. So, by not clicking on those trashy and useless ads we send a message to RCU that their marketing strategy is not working. With any luck, they just might listen. But it will take a while. The "marketing wizard" at IB that came up with this idea is a moron.

That's not exactly how banner ad revenue works,, yes typically when traffic is directed to a site they get additional money, but the also get money every time the ad is displayed, So every page you load,, makes IB money.

It's fractions of pennies per banner image load, but it adds up,, pardon the pun.

OK I am not seeing anything that different on my vanilla laptop running Windows 8.1 and Chrome.

How quickly we get used to something for nothing, then get upset when the folks who must pay the bills for our free service do exactly that- pay the bills.

RCU is a great (free) service to us all, and if this is what it takes to keep the doors open then my fingers aren't going to break because I have to scroll a bit more on my iPad.

This site is not run for charity. It cost money to run.
We can have a free site and deal with a few irritating adds, or pay a monthly fee and not have to deal with the adds.
Personally, I would rather deal with a few adds and not have to pay the monthly fee.
I don't really care what they advertise as I base all my shopping on what I actually need, not what some advertisement tells me what I need.

I don't know about the sites you visit, but every other site I visit is totally FREE ... AND WITHOUT THESE DUMB-ASS ADS.

As long as no one clicks on those dumb-ass ads, RCU won't get paid a fee. Eventually, IB will realize this was another hair-brained idea that resulted in no additional revenue, but only reduced their visit count and member count.

The main issue here isn't about whether to have ads or not. RCU has always had ads. The problem is that Internet Brands (owner of RCU) incorporated their new ad system without any regard for it's impact on the content. There are very clear industry best practices for using these ads so they have minimal impact on the user experience. Internet Brands isn't following them.

Here is a easy fix: Put the ads BELOW the content, not to the side of it. By putting ads to the side of a post, the ad then affects content at different screen solutions and when the ad is displayed on mobile devices. Use some common sense Internet Brands.

I see them on both my phone and laptop however l couldn't even view some threads last night because it kept redirecting me to advertisements. Possible hack/virus?

Looks like the site here is affiliated with Google.
So IB gets a free web host and Google has the right to spam the website. Nothing illegal, more like a poor business decision...

Because of the small add on olis post above it took up a whole page just to view his post. For some reason I couldn't post on it.

+1 here, every thread I go into on my laptop redirects me to another spam site. I've stopped using my iPhone to access RCU as its a total waste of time.

Prior to RCU doing the big switch a few years ago their average daily traffic was well into the twenty thousand. After the switch it has remained under ten and for the most part under five. Now add this commercial attack and it will dwindle even more. I have one last build I will finish on this site and then I will be gone as well. It really does suck as RCU use to be a great place, but now is just a playground for kiddies and the commercials.

The ads are bloody annoying..............
