18MZ variometer melody range, offset and deadband setting resolution
#1
Hi.
I appreciate the advanced settings for the the variometer melody such as Range, Deadband and Offset.
However, even though these fields are displayed as a decimal number with one decimal digit, it appears to be settable in steps of 1 m/s. I.e. 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 etc.
My experience is that this is far too course for any of the settings to be useful. As an example a glider might have a sink rate of 0.6 m/s but I am unable to dial in the correct offset needed to only get a melody when in sink or lift (in dead air it is a bit annoying to hear the constant melody).
If it is possible to input these values in 0.1 steps I would appreciate instructions on how to do it. If this is not possible I would consider this as a bug in the software and hoefully this could be fixed in the next software release.
Thanks.

In the SYSTEM TYPE menu when linking the RX you can set the D/L (down link) or sampling rate in 0.1 millisecond intervals. Even using the 0.1 ms setting there is still going to be a lag in the vario. Even full scale varios have a slight lag and you need to work to not end up chasing the vario.
As far as I know you cannot alter the resolution of the setting in the vario itself. The range that is available is all you get.

Thank you for the reply.
I think you misread my question. It was not about the download interval or any delay.
The question is related to some of the melody parameters (meters per second, not millisecond). The range is fine. It is the resolution that is the issue. The vario it self report with 0.1 pr better resolution (depending on the type). I dont think this is a hardware limitation in the vario, this is most likely a software issue in the radio.

The D/L interval affects the resolution. This value is measured in seconds. The higher/longer the value the lower the resolution will be.
The adjustment valus shown for the vario itself are not user adjustable either beyond what you see now.
