Default The Module Pins, Should I be concearned?

Hi AnnMarie,

First let me say your time spent here is a true asset to RCU and I thank you for taking the time to help us!
My question relates to the problems the 8U had regarding the pins that slide into the frequency module. It was well known that you had to remove the rear cover and resolder the pins on the 8U since they would break the solder joints at the board. I know a few people who lost planes because of this problem, unaware of this issue with the radio. My question is, Sould I be concearned about the same problem with the 9C? Do I need to regularly check the pins? I dont change my module often but do use seperate modules for shop work and flying. Thanks again...

Default The Module Pins, Should I be concearned?

Hi Todd!

First, no, this problem was very specific to a certain generation of 8U.

Secondly, I HOPE that you send your radio for regular service check ups (preferably to us, but to any service center you prefer!). Assuming your radio sees regular check ups, any such technical upgrades would be made automatically and at no charge to you.

Last, the pins are a point of common wear, esp for those users who change modules regularly. If anything, they are more likely to wear out faster than even the sticks on the radio for a modeler who is changing his module in and out alot (esp sim users who pull it out to fly and put it back every time). therefore, this is one of many areas that should be regularly inspected on the model by a qualified person, just as you as a qualified modeler regularly inspect the condition of your clevises, servos, etc.

Sincerely,
Mrs. AnnMarie Cross

Thanks AnnMarie! With the beautiful weather we get here in Daytona Beach, it's hard to let your radio go for service once a year but I always find some time to get it checked. I was concearned that I need to be checking those pin frequently, glad this is not the case.
Thanks again...
Todd
