DLE30 is a fine engine, just don't use the stock "muffler". It tests out over 100 db per AMA testing standards and well into the pain range at full power and 10'. I don't know about you, but I kind of like my hearing to work. A friend has a DLE30 with the 3DHS canister and that is a very nice setup.
Take a look at the Syssa 30, nice engine and it comes with an effective muffler.

That thing is sweet. Love the mx2. I think the gold wing planes are underated. They are a very good flying plane. I think I will try a mx 2 and a sbach from gold wing. Probly get the pilot sbach because of the flying surface of pilot rc planes. Bad ***** mx2 man.

franke,
I flying the Gold Wing models to, the MX 2 running the DLE30. First one had a G38 and met a light pole at the local oval, thats when I went to the DLE. First photo is one with the G38, second is after hit on pole and ground, and the last is the DLE powered twins.
Cheers

This is the Top Dawg yak 55sp made by Gold Wing. Loved it so much that we put 2.5 gal through the 30 in two days. These planes are on sale for 249.00 right now. Plane rtf came in at 9lbs 5oz. I also have a Fliton 1.20 with the dle 30 and it weighs 13lbs. 7oz. it will still hover and torque roll but the 9lb plane is insane. If you fly Low and Slow than the 30 is the best choice hands down. I converted my side carbs to rear carbs because of a burble. Other than that no problems.

I am the proud owner of a new DLE-30 and a Gold Wing SU-26m from Valley View R/C. VVRC had a great package deal on the plane/engine combo! http://www.valleyviewrc.com/Sukhoi%20Su-26m.htmWeight of the plane is 8.6 to 10lbs so this thing should fly great on a DLE-30! I've been monitoring the original DLE-30 thread for the last 6 months and there is a ton of good information there about setups and troubleshooting, etc. I'll be going back there for reference as I complete the build. Here in Illinois we've got some time before spring flying season is here, I'm hoping to be ready with this plane when the weather turns and the flying field drys out.

OK so spring is sprung, the grass is rising, and the Sbach/DLE30 combo maidened this monday without incident.
Came in at 11.4 lbs, and cg was a bit rearward. I found my Slipstream version had some flaws, most of which were caught in the build.
Watch the location of the ca hinge slots. Mine were not centered.
Had to excavate a garmungous hole in the firewall to get the rear carb version mounted, plus 1.25 inch standoffs. Reinforced a bit around the modified motor box and it all seems good at the moment.
The DLE rear carb is running very strong after only 5 or 6 tanks through it. I'm about to start leaning in the low end a bit to see if I can clean up the mid range burble some...it's 4-stroking pretty bad there. Top end is set a bit on the rich side of peak rpm.
I'm getting 8000 rpm on a Xoar 18 x 8 beech prop. Steady idle 1700 rpm and getting lower.
Vertical line is spectacular. Can't wait to get everything trimmed in and start flying some routines.
Thanks for the advice, all.
Gary.

My ulti came in 11.5 pounds. only prob i have had with the engine is.....ME!, well not really me i put a new 200mAh batt in and the 2nd time i flew it after that it started running like crap 10 minutes later. Had just charged the bat so i didnt think to check it at the field. got home and did as process of elimination. it was the batt. new one is in and everything is great.
Power of the little 30 is impressive.
Do away with the CA hinges and get some good hinge points. I broke 4 on my ulti. think its just a little too much to ask of em.

Thanks Nute12. Appreciate the comment on the ca hinges...
I'll keep a sharp eye on this. I've added full length ultrakote clear strips on top and bottom sides of all control surface gaps, to seal gaps and add a little more hinge material.
Seems to work well.

Ahhh, OK. You'd been referring to yours as "DP ultimate 90", and I started
to wonder if DP had made a mid-sized version.
Yours is the larger DP 1.20 Ultimate.
The one I used to have, had a Saito 1.50 in it.
Sure could suck a gallon of 20% nitro up in a hurry![X(]
The .40 size version I still have is loads of fun, but I miss my bigger one though.
Moved on up to a GP Ultimate 1.60 w/DA-50r after selling my bigger DP Ult.
Yours looks great! That DLE30cc will be a great match!
Fly yours with care, they're collectors items since DP went out of business.[&o]

The fuel consumption of the 180 is why i got rid of it and went gas. went to the hobby store to get a gallon of fuel and sticker shock decided right then and there the 180 was going to a new home. plus i hardly flew it because i hated desliming it it after.
The 30 made a whole new animal out of it. 1 paper towel cleanup....easy starting, flip an fly, the power is unreal, AND after changing out the 24 oz to a 12 oz fuel tank installing the 30 wet weight is actually 5 oz less!
I really have the hankerin for a 30 cc sbach tho so the ulti will probably go up for sale soon.

I pulled one of my first V2 (rear carb) DLE 30's off a GW Yak 55-SP, and put it on a new Pilot RC 30cc Sbach The Engine Has some where around 30 to 40 hrs on it trouble free.
I also did a canister muffler tunnel modification to the Sbach. Here are a few photo's I just finished it up. I hope weather permitting to test fly the Sbach this weekend.

Jerry,
That Sbach is looking good; thanks for the detailed photos regarding your tunnel cannister!
Hope you have a good maiden this weekend!

Hey guys thanks for the nice comments. I have not weighed the Sbach yet. but will get back to you on that. Depending on the type of flying I'm doing, the 2 Props I like are the Zoar 19X8 and the Zoar 19 3D-A . OH one other thing I like to do to the motor box on this size Plane is to wrap the the box with 2oz, glass and use CA to glue in place.

I have 30 odd flights on this plane now and it is really starting to move along .
Close enough to 5 Kg and with a China made cannister it purs along .
It can do ANY flight sequence I can throw at it and has true unlimted performance .
The DLE 30 is not a toy nor is it a subsititute for a "better brand" , it stands on its own two feet
as a quality engine with performance to match .

Very nice setup you have. Where did you get the cannister and header? Is there a header availible to route the exhaust under the airplane....like for my airplane? Thanks Capt,n

Hi, I have a 72" Sbach mfd by Flying models and powered with a DLE 30 rear carb.
Engine is great, still not fully broken in, using an 18x8 wood prop.
A very, very good, experienced 3D flyer tested mine and said it was perfect. Only problem has been the "clunk" in the tank which folded after a violent maneuver and the engine quit. My fault; I had used a very soft type of tubing (came with the model)...
For safety's sake I have installed an electronic cut-off switch in addition to the standard mechanical switch, also installed a digital tach connected to the supplied cable from the ignition module.
Everything worked great.
As a final point I did not install a "choke" servo, using only a simple manual connection for this use; it is only necessary for the first start of the day, so why complicate things?
Good flying to you.
Dino
