Shortening plug wire
Anyone messed with shortening the plug wire on the ignition box that comes with the DLE 30? Its a little long for my taste in my specific installation. looks like all you would need is the correct shrink wrap.

You should use a CM-6 style RCEXL repair boot from you favorite dealer

Jedijody has published pictures several times of how the caps are assembled.

You could also reuse your existing shielded plug cap / connector. You would need to replace the existing shrink sleeve with new as you will have to cut the old sleeve off to remove the existing cap.

I thought it looked like all I would need is some shrink wrap. The shrink wrap looks like it's the good stuff with the adheasive/sealant inside.

You can not just cut a chunk out of the cable and reattach the ends. That would probably create a cobbled up mess that would probably lead to arcing between the center conductor and the shield, shorting of the cable and / or the possibility of RFI.

RE: Shortening plug wire
The only right way to shorten the wire is with a new plug cap kit. There is a steel clamp that holds the two halves of the cap together, clamps the shielding to the cap, and prevents the wire from being able to be pulled out of the cap. Also, the tabs on the cap many times will break off when trying to be reused.

I have reused the caps before and the tabs did not break. I did replace the clamp with a new one from a connector I have at work though.

Not a conversion so to speak but a spark plug cap kit for 1/4-32 plugs, yes. You can put any spark plug cap on the ignition, Rcexl offers the kits for 1/4-32 (both 90 and 120 degree), CM-6 type (10mm non-resistor), 14mm 5/8" hex and 3/4-13/16" hex.

I got a little busy so I had my 5 year old do it for me. Just kidding, I truely do apreciate the help but I didn't see the need for the kit unless you can't come up with the correct crimp. All you really need is the correct crimp and shrink wrap. Im sure after a few times the tabs may break if your not carfull.
Thanks Again

Sounds like you had already decided what you were going to do before you made the original post?

Didn't and never do try to sell anyone anything in these forums, didn't even state whether I have replacement cap kits to offer, they are available from many sources. I merely gave you good advice, it was free, do with it what you wish. The only reason my business name is in my signature is because it's required by RCU forum rules.

Well do not feel to bad but live with pain most of the time. Got fly again today.I wish it would turn winter here so I could get some airplane work done and not be tempted to go flying.DL 20 is a monster little motor just like the 30.
Thank You
