Hi all,
I have just received my H-9 (Minicraft) 1/4 Taylorcraft and a G26 to fit in it. I also bought the Skywriter smoke pump.
The question is how do I best tap the muffler for good smoke output?
Can I use the stock muffler?
The price for aftermarket smoke mufflers is quite high so if I can use the stock one, I'd like to do that.
Any advice would be much appreciated

I have the G23 with the Sullivan Skywriter that I just started usung. I'm using a B&B smoke muffler that I paid $32.00 for (not terribly expensive). still working on some bugs in the system but when it works it does blow enough smoke. Quantum Models has it for $33.99 http://www2.mailordercentral.com/quantummodels/

What problems are you having? A friend of mine and I just set one up on a G-62 and mixed the pump volume with the throttle. Works great from that standpoint. The problem we are having is that the pump keeps loosing it's prime and it takes a lot of time of dry pumping to get it back. Wonder if you are experiencing this also or is this unique to our set up?

I think it might just be the plumbing in the tank. It will pump through about half the tank then seems to lose it's prime. When I fly inverted it'll start pumping smoke again as long as I remain inverted. Have to pull the tank out & check plumbing.

We discovered what the problem was. The check valve took much too much pressure from the pump to unseat it if the pump lost it's prime. We replaced the check valve with another kind and now the pump sucks smoke oil from the tank instantly!
If you're having trouble loosing prime or getting the pump to prime in the first place just try a little test on the bench. Remove the check valve from the system and try it pumping into a jar.

Hello, I was wondering what voltage battery are you using? I read that someone put a 4.8v with his Skywriter and it works....... Sullivan says to use a 6v to 12v battery with it! Confussed! Thanks!

At first I tried a 4.8v 600mah pack & it worked, this was when I was setting it up in the plane & not pumping oil. The pump was humming real good so I did'nt think I'd have any problems. When I completed the installation I tried pumping oil & all I got was a low buzzing sound. I thought maybe my battery was a little low so I charged it overnight. Next day same low buzzing sound & no oil! I was stumped and getting ready to yank everything apart but then I tried a 9.6v pack and HOLY SMOKE we've got oil. I then put the 4.8v back on & it pumped for about a minute before the voltage dropped & I got the same low buzzing sound & no oil. I'm now using a 6v 1400mah pack which works perfect for my setup.
