TOM,
While I agree with most of what you write, I believe you don't leave much room for the few people out there who are truly interested in learning about our hobby. Those who will be around long term and not in it just for the quick self gratification so common today. There are probably more of these people than you might give them credit for.
I too try to fight the battle here on RCU and seem to fail much of the time because many people just don't want to hear a real answer. Even worse are those who don't read a whole thread then jump in with a completely off topic question long after the topic of the thread has been addressed and answered multiple times. Then they blast you for not answering the question in the "tone" they wanted to hear. Also those people who refuse to collect any info for themselves and expect the exact answer to a question that is poorly worded and lacking in symptoms and descriptions of the exact problem. What would these people have done for info before the Internet?? You get the picture ... I won't go on.
I think I'll just turn this computer off, then go fly at my small club of rebels where we have minimal rules but share much info ... and where building is not a lost art!
No EME 55s here yet but plenty of DLE engines.

If you suggest that someone works through a problem instead of simply addressing the end result you become an ogre. It's even worse if you try to walk them through a problem one step at a time so they can learn something in the process.
If you tell people the truth and it wasn't what they wanted to hear you are called ''insensitive' and rude.
It's because our hobby is rife with a sense of self centeredness that has never been present before.
It's because people that KNOW how to deal with an issue, make it better, prevent it's recurrance, are continuously challenged by newbies and their personal fan clubs.
Since there's already a place where people can speak freely about the hobby I don't worry about it.

Re that "other place", if they "cleaned it up" a bit and got rid of those awful templates and backgrounds they use, it would be a much more attended place.
I used to run and administer a large forum once (on an unrelated subject" and we used to have user selectable templates there. After we implemented them - and it's dead-simple to do - user numbers multiplied like never before

I won't try to debate anyone that says I can be harsh at times. I can't argue with the truth either
I'm of the opinion there are a lot of people that want a lot more out of the hobby but their playing field is cluttered with those that are in it for instant gratification. Unfortunatley the "self" group overwhelms the interested group and causes a spill over of "attitude". It's not right but that's what happens. So how they present their questions makes a tremendous impact on how it's received. Taking a few moments to present the question in a manner that illustrates that more time in the explanation is acceptable or with the understanding that one size won't fit all will assist those that can help and teach to do so. It's not easy always recognizing who wants to see the bigger picture but I know they are out there and need to be put in the limelight.
Antique,
Your site was really hard to work with, and log into. You'd need to obtain a good website person to tweak it to make it user friendly.
I'm already a "tired old moderator" and you can come visit anytime you want. Be assured you can speak any way you want. I even had a forum built for people like us, and those that want to learn from people like us. Jody, Wahoo, and quite a few others know where it is, but it's a special place where those that can't handle straight talk should avoid exposure. Debates are stimulating and reveal avenues generally left unexplored because of fear of retribution. That exploration leads to the expansion of performance knowledge not generally found in tapioca forums.

This hobby has a lot for everyone that particiaptes but it's not a hobby that can be mastered after 30 minutes punching buttons on a controller in front of a video screen. It takes time and effort. Effort needed to learn the why, what, and how. Effort to improve the hobby through personal experimentation, experimentation that was enabled though the continuous expansion of knowledge and experience developed over time.
Buy and fly has done nothing to promote anything other than profit for the seller. Although the underlying purpose of this hobby is to have fun it is also one that enables the intelligent and perceptive the abilty to enrichen their lives and the lives of their families because they developed an interest in a field that has so many possibilities. Engineering, piloting, UAV operations, airport management, meterology, aerospace, are just a few of the areas that are available to those that develop a real interest in our hobby. Although, at this point in time, almost anyone can participate in the hobby, it best rewards those that develop and maintain an inquisitive and professional mindset about it.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Hey, is the spring on a DLE 111 spark plug boot necessary?
JK, JK!
Good post T.O.M. I've followed your advise here and on two other forums for years, ever since my first G23. The ones that know appreciate the effort.

There is no punishment for making the copies. That's where the problem lies. Since they own most of our debt our government, and the U.N., will not initiate any type of enforcement activities against them. The only protection our industry has is to prevent the release of information or products they can use or copy, which is why our R/C engine research and development is now becoming limited to UAV operations, which are controlled under rules and regs from the State Department.
They manage to eventually steal the stuff anyway, but at least those inventing the stuff get to make exclusive use of it for more than a couple weeks. They've even managed to make copies of some of the stuff I work with. There's doesn't work for chit though

RE: EME 55 DLE's new Cousin?
Just got one. It look nice all around, just like an DLE. The bearings are NSK made in Japan. The conrod was grinded to remove "DLE" from it, at least they take the time for do it, some others don´t go so far. It has a serial number and the CDI is Rxcel.
The biggest difference with a DLE is the reedblock, the pulse for the carb pump goes trought the reedblock.
Will try it next week and post some numbers and videos.
Here are the pics:

RE: EME 55 DLE's new Cousin?
The cylinder is the old style DLE 55
One thing that has me concerned about the crank with DLE ground off.
A while back DLE had a problem with some bad cranks and crank bearings and they jumped right on the problem and solved it, I have been told by more than one person and also the factory that makes the cranks that you have to buy them a 1,000 at a time, So what happened to all those thousands of cranks that had the bearing problems, Do you really think they were trashed.

RE: EME 55 DLE's new Cousin?
sure is good . and this cylinder has nothing to do with DLE55 cylinder . old style or new. as I know EME invest about 15K USD for the mold of cylinder , dont know how much investment total . but sure EME cylinder are not like Milton think , it's OLD DLE55 CYLINDER . you can use GOOGLE PICTURE to find all DLE55 CYLINDER picture and to do compare with EME cylinder . quite different inside and out side
