Default Timing question

How do I know when I have the HALL switch in the right spot for maximum performance?

Here are two different ways it can be done.

Most engines run it at 28deg BTDC. You will need a degree wheel and check and reset if reguired. Won't let me upload the PDF. Can be found at http://www.dlenginesaustralia.com/dl...iewDoc&docId=9 half way down under Ign Systems- Ing Installation

Cheers

Thanks, I'll try 28 degrees. I'm converting a super tigre 90 into a gas engine, any tips for that?

How about estimated output; better or worse, faster or slower.

Mine turns a Zoar 14 x 6 at 10,600 rpms. About 12.5 lbs static thrust. It was converted to roller bearings for me by Keith at BME and I run it on 20:1 oil. (Actually I got those numbers after only one tank of fuel through it. It might be turning a little more now.)

BME offers them converted, as well as www.lambertsrc.com

I have a feeling mine might do 11,000 rpm on a 15x4 currently as a glow engine, but the carb has to be retuned after a while of sitting. I think that a spark conversion will help. At least there wont be as much oil mess.

It is on a Prox 260 and the 15x4 almost flew it too fast.

Your answer raises a question. There is a notable performance loss between a 40:1 and 32:1 so how much more loss at 16:1?

Well, the engine already runs on a lot of oil because it is a small nitro engine.

If you do not run 16:1, the rod will wear out.

With dino oils like Pennzoil, the loss at 16:1 is not significant.

Just out of curiosity how fast of rpm can most ignition systems keep up with? Can they handle 20,000rpm?

performance loss between 32:1 and 40:1 ????????? maybe you just needed to retune it. there is no power loss at these sorts of oil ratios in fact it can even be argued you will gain power...... search for gordon jennings moreis less less is more etc etc article. I have tested from 30:1 to 50:1 ratios and ended up now on always running 35:1 from run -in and always..... its a very debatable topic, but power loss is not a good argument...

Any oil ratio change is a mixture change. The needles would have to be touched up.
