I've had it with DLE engines. Anyways I have a DLE-35 on a P47 and I have yet to have it run properly. I had it running after about 50 flips of the prop the first time and it ran for a while and then wouldn't run right and would run only if you started it on full throttle. I took apart the carb and cleaned it out good with carb cleaner and put it all back together and all night long I have tried to start this engine and the best it did was to pop once under choke. I cannot get this engine to run. I have spark and the spark plug is wet, yet, it will not run. Its intensely frustrating since this is a brand new engine.
This is the second DLE that I've owned with intense carb issues. The first was a DLE30. Does anyone know a direct walbro replacement for the DLE35? I have found a few at hobbyocean.com that are made for a 20cc-30.5cc and a few for 40 to 55cc, but nothing that would cover a 35 CC.
Thank you
David

Worst i have ever heard about DLE 20 and 30 cc engines. I have both and do my starting as follows: Full choke, full throttle, turn on ignition, flip prop until it pops or tries to run. Stop. Open choke, lower throttle to about two clicks above full closed throttle, flip to start. Usually starts on second or third flip. This is my proceedure on both engines. By the way. Both engines set all winter and starting with fresh fuel this proceedure started both engines with out any problems. Been flying both engines all summer here in Oklahoma when the wind was below 15 mph.

Hi John,
Thanks for your reply. I own several gas planes and am familiar with the startup procedure. My Desert Aircraft engines just run. No problems, they just run flawlessly. These DLE have been cursed apparently. I was told my friend that DA now has a 35cc engine out, and I might dump this junk DLE and buy the DA instead if I can't find a walbro replacement for the carb.
Thanks
David

ayrobotech, are you sure it is a carb problem? If the plug is wet, it sounds like the engine is not firing when choked and it just continues to get wetter to the point it couldn't fire if it had to. If it were my engine I'd try two things. First, get your hands on a known good carb and try that to see if it makes a difference. If that doesn't fix the problem, try to substitute a known good ignition. If you don't have the parts laying around, maybe you could borrow them from a friend. I know I have loaned out parts before when someone was having problems. Sometimes there is just no better troubleshooting technique than parts substitution.
Ignition problems can act like carb problems and similarly the other way around. There have been known cases of bad Rcexl ignitions as used by DLE and in particular, some of the sensors have had strange problems. This has been covered extensively in other forums. I recently had a DLE 61 that simply would not start worth a hoot, especially when hot. I substituted an Rcxp ignition and sensor from Milton at RC Extreme Power and all problems went away. Like you, this seemed to be a carb problem but I knew it wasn't because the engine ran fine once I got it started. Good luck and remember, all engines, even DA have problems from time to time.
If you find there is a real carb problem, Valley View RC and Mile High RC are both good sources of Walbro carbs.

It could be a spark plug problem. I once had a spark plug that would fire in open air but would not fire in the engine under compression.
Buying a new DA35cc just to get another Walbro carb seems kind of extravagant.

Try changing the ignition sensor. I went through the same thing recently(on a different brand of engine), engine would pop, run occasionally, backfire etc. Changed the sensor..all is good....just a thought.
