I've been playing around with the Basic routine with my Edge. I don't know what kind of servo's you're planning on using, but I started out the Hitec 645 MG's everywhere except throttle. I could not get them to hold center well enough on the elevators, so the trim was always changing. I had never used any digitals before, but I splurged and put 4 Hitec 5945's on the elevator's and ailerons. That really solved the trim problems on the elevators, and improved the "snappyness" on the ailerons. I left the two 645's in the tail for the rudder since I had a G-62 on the nose and needed them for tail weight. Since switching to the DA-50, I pulled the 645's out of the tail, took the 5945's out of the ailerons to put one of the 5945's on a pull-pull for the rudder. The rudder is just as powerfull on one 5945 as it was with two 645's, quicker also.
The 645's work fine on the ailerons, but the 5945's out there spoiled me. There responce is just crisper. If I was on a tight budget, and could only affort 2 top quality servos, I would put them on the elevators, anything less on this plane and I think you'll be disappointed. The elevators are VERY sensitive. I even had to go into my 8UAFS transmitter and change the amout of movement I got out of "one beep" of trim. Start with 50% expo on low rate.
I'm balance at 5" back from the leading edge also.

I am gonna use JR8611 on rudder & elevator and JR8411 on ailerons. I do not thrust Hiteck servos with all servos locked up and crash stories on RCU...
Menz 22x8 for break-in and MejliK 23x8 after. 6500RPM will be less louder than Menz prop over 7000RPM.
Here is the flight review of WH Edge and Mejlik 23x8 from a guy on RCU:
I tried a 22x10 Mejlik but it was a little too hard to keep a constant speed with it. It
went too fast for my taste. The 23x8 seemed to slow the downlines, keep IMAC
level flight consistant. It was also a great 3D prop.

The winter is already coming in Canada, The Edge will fly next spring.

What a bummer having to wait until spring.[:@] I'm in Tennessee and we fly up till the end of December normally. I got to see an edge/DA-50 combo fly this spring with a 23 or 24 x 8 Mejzlik on it. It was definately slower than the 22 x 10, but is seemed like he was full throttle if he wanted to get any speed at all out of it. I like doing a bit of IMAC myself, and prefer a bit faster speed. The 10 pitch is a bit touchy, but I'm not competing against anyone but myself. <bg> As far as 3D goes, I'm no expert, but even with a 22 x 10, there is plenty of excess power to get you out of trouble, so you don't need to go to the 23 x 8 for more power.
Just a matter of what kind of flight charactoristics you like.

I hope to get a hold of a mejzlik 22-10 to get a thrust measurement. I think DA has this engine pretty well figured out!~) I agree Dick, 7300 on a 22-10 mej is pretty good. Not sure mine will do that without leaning the heck out of it, which I won't do. I'm really getting into the way my plane flys with the DA/pipe combo. I've gotten good feedback from some great pilots that have flown it and say it flys like a much bigger plane. The range of planes that this engine will fly is awesome. Now if I could get a DHmodels one off pattern design for this combo!!~)
THe impact from comp-arf might come in around 11lbs and be fun. THats what Jasons weights with lipolys. Hmmmmmm. My digital scale will be here this next week so I can compare against my friends. BTW, I use 2 different tachs to get my readings.
I bet that edge is a fun plane!

hi guys,
i was a little confused before about prop size for my new da50.
after reading some comments on here i have no idea what to use now.
as this is my gasser this is all new to me.
i am putting the 50 in a precision aerobatics edge540. 84" wing span. they say the weight will come out between 14 and 16lb. hitech 5645's all round with a 1700mah 6 volt battery.
i was told one was weighed with a zdz40 in it and it came out at 14lb. i'm not holding my breath
but it would be nice if i can get in under 15lb.
da says to use a 22x 10 for break in, so why would you anything other than what they recommend.
please feel free to give any advise as i'm new to all this............
