I have a ST2300 that I am installing ignition on and plan to use methanol and oil. I was going to convert to needle bearing rod and run gas but I understand the conversions are not reliable. I think I would have to use too much oil with the bushed rod causing plug fowling problems.
My question is what and how much oil should I use with methanol?. I can't afford the glow fuel cost. I already have the engine and ignition. I will be running this in a CA Models 24% Extra 300 in IMAC sportsman. What would be the minimum fuel tank size?.
Thank's
Ray

Ray - you need to go thru learning curve on this setup-
th best fuel mix we found was 20% Klotz and 5% nitro.
prop - 18x8 IF a decent tuned system is used = 8000rpm -9000rpm.
The muffler used can kill the project
Why?
the st2300 carb is difficult to set for best idle /transfer in mid range -to full power --unless you have 1/2-3/4 psi on the tank as the engine reaches the last 1000 rpm.
You may havesome success with a pump or a regulator (demand type -
The ignition setup can produce a beautiful smooth running setup -with better power than allowing the glow plug to set the timing
It can also mask lean fuel runs and cause you to wreck the engine -
It is a learning curve -be patient -

From: Ponoka, AB,
I have a couple of pre-Chinese ST 2300 engines.
They wouldn't run well to start with....better after I modified the carbs as per this link
http://www.rcaerobats.net/STEng/Supertigre.htm
then got them set decently, used an OS "F" plug and 15% fuel.
I have since installed a Perry pumper carb and a VP-30 pump....awesome runner now!
I have not messed with the original carbs since and I have heard that the "Chinese" carbs ars better.
Thanks
John

Johnny - I published a bunch of stuff on the 2300 -but the proper fix was simply something a number of folks had trouble with .
The horribly overpriced FI glow engines have nothing on the cheap tigre with proper carb/pipe and ignition -the Tiger is even smoother --with the spark ignition - BUT it is not a project for a newbie -

I have had very good luck with all the Tigers I owned. I always wanted a 2300. Is the new China made 2300 good as or better than the Italy made ones? Has anyone got a new one in use? Thanks Capt,n

Thank's for the information. Which Klotz oil did you use?. Is the 5% nitro mandatory for decent performance?.
For several years I have been using a Cline regulator. I have a 2oz header tank with the pickup in the center of the tank. This acts as an air separator. The header tank is located as close to the centerline and as close to the carb. as possible. I use the Cline reg. to fill the header tank. The vent side of the regulator is hooked to muffler pressure therefore the carb. see's muffler pressure just as it was designed to and with the fuel tank in the most ideal position. This has worked very well for me.
What do you recommend for the exhaust as to header length, can size, tail pipe, etc.
My engine is an older Italian model new in the box and looks like it has the dog leg groove on the barrel. What modifications do you recommend or what carb?.
Do you know how much total advance you used or did you set it backed off from peak RPM?.
I very much appreciate your answers.
Thanks
