Gas engine compared to 2-stroke power
Looking for a comparison between 2-stroke power to weight and gas engines in cc's? What would a G23 compare to in 2-stroke and what weight range in aircraft. I am build a B-17 and it requires 4 40 size engines. I was looking to put 18cc gas engines in their place. Thanks for the help Tom.

The gas engines 99.999% of the people use are 2 stroke engines...
Do you mean your B-17 plans call for .40cid (6.5cc) two stroke glow engines, and you want to put 1cid gas engines in there? Wow...
I'd stick with glow on this one... if it calls for .40 2-strokes, get .60-.70 four strokes (glow too).
Or pull out your credit card and electrify it.

the little 14cc echo trimmer engines would make a decent substitute IF you have room for 14" props and the plane can handle an additional 4 lbs. or so.
or you could just covert the 4 glow engines to electronic ignition and get the same great reliability with less weight penalty. it would also allow you to run 0% nitro fuel.

TLH101,
Don't say they aren't out there quite so fast. There is a company called "Campagnucci"??? that makes a .40 size gas 2-stroke engine. Electronic ignition and the works. Weight is a tiny bit more than a glow but the HP is about the same. I think MECOA can get them. I'm sure would be spendy at around $240 each. I am thinking of buying one to put on a 40 size fun-fly like the Fazer. 4 oz. tank, LiPo batteries, etc!!!!!

SWEET!
And you can buy the motor in many different variants. There are ones for boats(water cooled), cars(fan cooled) and aircraft. If I remember correctly their HP claim was around 1.3.

You would have to log many flight hours to make up the difference between the cost of the gas engine and its high dollar spark plug compared to the cost of a Thunder Tiger .40 or .46 and a glow plug...And add 6 to 8 ounces to the weight of the glow engine....[8D]
