Default DA-50R question?

Hi. What kind of muffler is the one that is for sale at desertaircraft.com for the DA-50R? Is it a Pitts muffler? I want to buy a DA-50 for a Greatplanes Pitts Special and a pitts muffler would look great.

I have never had a gas engine before, only glow. So, how different are gas engines from glow engines? Are they more difficult to tune?

Thanks,
Paul

You can also get a wrap around pitts style muffler with the cannister and the exauast outlets located behind the engine.

Nevermind my last post, I found a good Bisson Pitts muffler. So, are gas engines harder to tune than glow engines?

Absolutely not. Once your engine has five gallons of fuel though it you usual won't need to touch the needles again.

I know you found your muffler but heres another good Pitts muffler as well >

Doug,

I can't read the weight of that Pitts in the picture you posted.

Could you please clarify?

I have a DA-50R, great engine.

I have the stock DA muffler and am looking to reduce noise level. Any suggestions on the Slimline, Bisson or other solutions.

I have also planned on trying a 3 bladed prop for noise reduction.

I started out with the stock DA muffler also. I put on a Slimline Pitts and it is soooooooooooooo much better. Not near as loud, and the engine now has a purr sound instead of a bark.

Any of you guys looking to unload your stock DA muffler. Up here in Vermont , noise only offends the cows and they aren't complaining.

Paul,
I have a few Da50s, I might be at the basin this weekend and I can show you my setup. The DA50 is very easy to setup and run, Setting the needles are easy and not as fussy as a glow engine. I can walk you through the starting procedure too. Let me know what day you are going to fly. Sorry about your P51. Going gas was the smartest thing I have ever done in RC.

Hey what do you guys think the best gas/oil mix for the DA-50? The one I bought only have about 30oz of gas ran through it and still needs break in. Whats a good gas/oil ratio for break in and after break in?

Thanks!

I just recieved my DA-50 this afternoon and there's one thing that worries me. The braided ignition wire was a slight tear on it where it connects to the cap. Only the metal part is a bit torn but the actual wire inside looks ok. Manual says it can cause radio interferance and thats what worries me. You guys think it will work ok or should I send it back?

Hello all,
I've been losing sleep trying to figure out which 50cc to go with. This will be my first go around with gasoline engines and it looks like the DA 50 is going to be my choice. I have a few questions if somebody would like to tackle them. 1.) Is the ignition battery powered and if so what size battery are you going with? 2.) How long is the flight time on a single charge? 3.) How long do you break the engine in before you put it in the air? 4.) Do you run a 2 or 3 blade prop for noise reduction? 5.) Does a Pitts style muffler give more power and better noise reduction?. Thanks to anyone who can help me out with these questions.........Scooter

Good choice!
1 yes the ignition is battery powered, I am using 1650 NiMH packs

2 a long time, I have never needed to recharge at the field.

3 you set the needles "slightly" rich and fly it, no extended ground brake in required.

4 I have only used the DA recommended 22-8 menz-s

5 The stock DA exhaust is not really a muffler, just an exhaust diverter, it has no baffling. I am using the slimline pitts muffler and I don't find it loud. However canister and tunned pipes are rumored to be quieter.

DA recommends several other props.

1. I use a 110 MaH NiMh, light, gives at least 5 - 6 flights,
2. 5 - 6 12-minute flights per ignition charge
3. Just adjust a little rich and take off...
4. I don't need noise reduction, I use 23x8 Mejzlik. 3 blade will help to reduce noise.
5. Can't compare, because I use only Pitts.
