Default G-62 Question...

How far can you strip down a G-62? I would like to use one in a plane that calls for a 3.2, but it is too heavy, so I would like to strip it down and add elec. ing. Am I barkin at the moon, or is it in the range of possibility? Thanks.

Default G-62 Question...

The flywheel is already vestigal and the coil is quite small.Im pretty sure the CH conversion uses part of the existing coil setup too.The fins are fabricated not cast so there isnt much excess weight there to trim.I guess you could find ways of shedding a few ounces but there isnt anything major you can do.One of the real experts can tell you better than I but either of the popular conversions to electronic ignitions isnt going to add much to the top end.The gain is in starting, idle and smoother mid-range.

Ch ignition supplies a new prop hub and does away with the flywheel plus you get to remove the spring and its components.
Check them out online and you will see what they supplywith the upgrade.
Of course you add back the weight of the ignition module and battery pack.
I dont have one but the Jump star option looks good as it does away with the spring assembly and you only connect it when starting.

I have 2 G62's one with CH ignition and one with spring starter...The one with the ignition lost about 6oz with the kit, still uses the coil that came on the motor and has a far better mid range and idle....uses a 22x12 zinger prop..pulls a 18lb Big Bingo straight up till ya have to nose it over....

Default G-62 Question...

3.8 pounds with a C&H Ignition with a C&H flywheel that has been lighten by cutting out the backside on a lathe.Using a 600 mah Nimh batt these are the AAA size cells . Got rite of the stock coils and spring starter also removed the stock coil mounts , using a B&B cup mount that has more holes in it then swiss cheese. Cut off the back side of the crankshaft.
Running a Mac's Header into a Mac's Pipe.
On a 17 pound Morris Giant Knife with a cut down pro Zinger 26x10 to a true 24 1/2 dia.
