That's actually pretty interesting, and probably a bit of fun at times. I picked up on the same pronunciation with different spelling, but figured you weren't related because of the spelling. I almost said something, and if I had, I would have been really surprised at the answer.

RE: Zenoah G-62 or DA 50
I don't want to be the guy who tries to change the subject.....BUT, While we seem to have some knowledge here I must impose this question. Has anyone seen or have any experience with the BCMA G-62? It seems that they lighten the eng quite a bit. They say it comes in at 75 oz with the muffler. I'm thinking of one of these for a 50cc extra 330. I would hope that the dependability is still there. If anyone can advise. Thanks, And I hope I didn't stray to far from the original post.

HI,
NEITHER ENGINE IS GOOD FOR A 30 LB PLANE IF YOU WANT TO DO AEORBATICS. YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO DO SOME BUT THOSE ENGINES ARE BETTER DESINGED FOR PLANES UNDER 20 LBS. DONT EXPECT 3D PERFORMANCE HERE.

RE: Zenoah G-62 or DA 50
If the BCMA Zen62 will turn a 24-10 prop at 6800 it's running better than any of the other G62s I have been running for 20 years...And a 24-10 at 6400 with the stock muffler is imposssible...
Mine weigh 4 lbs 1 oz with the ignition in the mount, without the muffler..
23-8 XOAR, 6700
24-8 MenzS, 6700
Must be some super gas they have in China

Where are you from, the dark ages ?? Otherwise you really are a newbie to the gas world.

Very true RTK. Maybe I should have been more specific, as my response was really adressing the aerobatics part of the post. It's quite common for G62's to power 40 lb. war birds and do so quite well.

RE: Zenoah G-62 or DA 50
I like both engines and I think either would fly a 30 pound plane if it has enough wing area. I wish my DA would whip my G62 but It doesn't. If it did, I'm sure I would like it a lot more. I bought the first generation DA50 because these forums said it was revolutionary in light weight and power. It vibrates less at WOT but the G62 idle is way smoother. For power, I guess the DA pulls like a 4+ pound engine should pull and I can't really tell the difference from the Zenoah. This is only MY experience. I wouldn't dare say "G62s idle way better than DA50s." Just the ones I own. If we believed everything we read then we would all be flying Extreme Flight Yaks with DA50s (but that's as likely as riding a unicorn). I do get some good info on this forum but it mostly entertainment.

My Z Corsair flew just fine with 5 extra pounds of "ordanance" with a G-62. (40#) It flew just like any other heavy warbird. I wouldn't exactly say it would do a scale loop from level flight but.....you know what I mean. Landing at about half throttle was cool, just a little faster than usual. Also with a 22-10 prop.
BTW, RC Ign straightened my crank years ago and it never ran better.
I wonder if a DA can withstand 20 prop strikes in a year and still run fine??? Yeah I was just learning about warbirds then.

Ok here it is I am using a g62 on a world models extra 28%. It weighs 19.1 prop is a Vess 23c equal to a 23 10. Now the fun part it turns it at 9200 rpm an it still isnt tuned up. I do use electric hand starter yeah me chicken or just like my fingers... Ive often woundered if the da was better orZenoah. Now the kicker my buddy has a dl 50 that starts with two flips and it out pulls mine Zenoah. so now that your realy confused good luck happy flying

If I could rustle up the bones from this horse for just a second, I have a valid question.
I've got a Dively Pitts that I'm going to be working on with my dad. It's partially completed and we're looking at finishing it this summer. We're not using the aluminum sheeting since it didn't come with the plane. We will need to sheet it with balsa though so the weight should be about the same. We're shooting to get it under 20lbs. My question is, would my G-62 fly this plane? Here are my expectations. If the engine would hold the plane in a hover but not pull it out, I'd be happy. I don't see hovering the plane often but I currently have a much smaller (60" wing) Pitts that pulls off of the ground great and will hold in a hover but won't pull out of it. This plane has enough power for me and my style of flying. Will the G-62 have equal power (to scale) as the smaller Pitts? I read this thread to try and gauge if I'll be satisfied with the engine. If I don't think that I'll be happy, I'll have to get one of the 85cc engines or even a new DL-100. I'm not made of money but re-designing the aircraft after finding out that I'm unhappy with the power isn't financially prudent either. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Zenoah G-62 or DA 50
Hey Tcrafty, I have the G62 on magneto, with a wrap around pitts, a Zoar 22-8 on a H9 Sukhoi that weighs 24lbs.
That plane will hover with just a bit of pullout. So, you should be perfect at around 20lbs or less.
I see that LSPro now has the header and cannister available. I may send my G-62 off to get it lightened and electronic ignition installed.

Interesting topic as I have woundered this very thing.
I have a couple of G62's & 45's and they are drop dead reliable and have never caused me to lose a airplane. I do not own a DA 50, but I have friends that have and they are sending them back for repair quite often with electronic module problems. Some have switch their DA 50's over to useing the newer DA85 electronic modules with a lot less problems...they must be different???
Just my observations at the flying field.

A buddy of mine has my old G62 on a 21.5 pound plane and it flys it unlimited. We just checked the weight yesterday at the field. This engine has been converted by Ralph and runs an Abell muffler. We thought this plane was about 17 pounds with fuel because of the performance. We checked the weight with two different scales. 22x10 Bolly prop.
