Default Engine Breakin

Hey guys, could anyone tell me whether or not, it is safe to break-in a G62 on the bench stand?

It's not usually recommended that you break in a gas engine on the stand. It just takes too long. And, you don't get the same cooling effect from prop wash that you will get in the air while flying the engine.

If you must--bolt it up to a stand and run a couple tanks through it. Set your needles a little rich and then bolt it up to the plane and fly it.

It takes a lot of fuel to break in a G-62. I've got one with about 5 gallons thorugh it--and it's not anywhere near broke in yet. But, thats just my opinion.

Do you really want to stand around and watch your G-62 run 10 or 15 gallons of fuel on the bench?

If it's a new one you might try reading the instructions that came with it in the box

Gassers dont require bench running, Mount it to the plane, set the hi end for max rpm and back it off 300-500 rpm, set the low end for good transition. and fly it. adjust as nessasary as it brakes in.

If you just have to hear it run, remember cooling is never as eficiant on the ground without the ram air effect of flight. And the highest load conditon possible, is full throttle on a stationary bench.

LMFAO...

As others have said, don't waste your time on the bench. Put it on the plane and fly it.

Set the needles to the manual-recommended opening and break it in in the air. It may take a while. Usually, when it stops spitting black spots, it's broken in. My G-23, G-28, and G-62 all did the same thing and took between 3-4 gallons to completely break in. It won't sag and die or flame out at idle like an unbroken-in glow engine will.

If you set the needles at the factory setting you may or may not be right...Factory settings are vastly over rated and are set so that the engine will run so rich it can't possibly hurt itself...Setting needles is no big deal, try it, you can't possibly damage anything running it on the ground..It will quickly die if too lean, and four cycle if too rich [8D]

Good point. Interestingly enough, all three of mine ended up between 1.5 and .75 open. The adjustment is NOT critical.
