I just test flew my new Wild Hare Extra300 with a DA50 on it, and every time I throttled back on my landing approach the motor would die. I left the needle adjustment on the factory setttings for the test flight, ran fine just died when it was throttled down. Had idle set at around 1900 rpm, 22x8 prop .Any suggestions?

It sounds like you need to adjust your carb.
Peak the RPM's (leaner) with the high needle and back off about 200 rpm (richer). Lean the low needle until it dies when you open the throttle, then open (richen) the low an 1/8 turn at a time until the transition is good. Repeat the steps for the high again. When your low side is correct the engine should be able to idle for a long time without changing RPM'S.
If your engine is new the high end should be a little rich. Make sure the motor is making a slight gurgling sound at full throttle.
Good Luck

Exactly,,,but I would just say to do the increments in 1/16 of a turn, I know that sounds picky but these motors are tempermental when you get them close to optimal settings,,

i would adjust your idial speed when u have warmed the engine as they are different when cold and warm and adjust those needles high first to peak then back off 100rpm then low to have smouth transition

I shut it down, adjust the needles then start back up..When it gets close I just fly it then adjust after each flight until I get it perfect..tuning on the ground will get you close, but what the motor does in the air is more important and most of the time once you get in the air, the tune will change..thats why I start it on the rich side (not too rich though) then lean after each flight as necessary

Have any of you had problems starting your DA50? Recently mine has become a pain to start at times. It will pop once when choked then start and die on about the 5 flip unchoked. It will then start and die several times before it stays running. Sometimes hard to start after a flight and refueling. The high needle is at about 1 3/4 the low is at 1 1/2. Once its running, the engine performs really well.

Vanguard,
Mine acted as you described. Almost like it needed to run for a while before it would run without dying. What I thought was it being cold natured was actuallt some kind of trash that was in the carb and broke loose, causing it to die. The trash looked like it had been there since it was manufactured. Inlet screen was clean, and I use a filter in-line, and a Walbro filtered clunk in my fuel jug. My needle setting are close to yours, low end just a tad leaner, I fly at sea-level. Cleaned it w/ carb spray and a little compressed air and have not had any troubles since.
Good luck,
Jon
