Perhaps helpful.

Welcome to "Club Brillelli"........ if there is ANYTHING we can do to help, don't hesitate to ask. Personally, I don't think you made a bad choice at all....mine REALLY likes the 23 x 8....
Yeh, I think I'm going to either try a Menz 23x8 or a Xoar 23x8 to start with...probably the Xoar since seem to be currently getting the most play for 3d. That should work right? I asked Scott and didn't really suggest a smaller "break-in" prop run but rather just get the prop you think your going to fly with. So I shouldn't get the LawnBoy ashless for the first few gallons....?they have that right at the Lowes so its actually probably the easiest to get of all these choices...if it won't hurt anything...I like "easy".

{duber3: Read Bob's spreadsheet and it should paint a b/w picture on the RTF weight of this motor to the G62 and the other choices you might be looking at.}

But not very much
not surprising [sm=72_72.gif]

Weight is weight and 4 or 6 oz is worth it to a lot of people or you wouldn't see people buying CF spinners, PSP Titianium axels, lipo batteries etc etc. IF I am going to pay 60 - 80 for a spinner to save 3 or 4 oz... going to pay 80 more for more weight savings in the engine.

I hope I never take any part of this hobby seriously enough to buy a CF spinner.

Some folks are so obsessed with certain aspects of life that I have actually seen them wax the paint off of their automobiles.

Light is good. But trying to nail that last 2% of perfection will suck the life out of the hobby and your wallet.

Fortunately, we still live in a somewhat free society that tolerates such extremes in behavior. Ralph's version of light is light enough for me. YMMV

Ahh come to this thread as well to share that shining attitude [sm=75_75.gif]

Well that's great and thanks for sharing your opinion...

Fact is some of us fly circles to enjoy a day... some of us take it more seriously and strive to get better at something they enjoy greatly. There is nothing wrong with a little bit of passion and if you take a pound off an airplane or more it's a night and day difference.

With your statements it's clear you dont fly pattern or IMAC.. and if you do you don't take it seriously and you probably don't fly 3D because if you did you would be concerned about weight as I am.

Fact is its a 6+ oz difference in these engines... for an $80 difference I will take the one that weighs less.. it's worth it to me and that's all that matters period.

Actually the prices are allmost dead even by the time you buy a muffler for the G62. Most won't use the tin can chainsaw muffler. So the only thing left is weight.

Bob, I just got to see some pics of that Extra

Have you ever had one of those days that you can't type anything without ticking someone off? I wasn't giving anyone a shot. Just recommending that they moderate their passion. Even that will tick off someone, I'm sure.

well I guess my question would be why would you want someone to moderate their passion? If we did that we wouldn't have 3/4s of the great technology that we have today.

I have been flying since last June.. I have a huge passion for it. Out of 180 members at our club there is a handful who can fly at my skill level or better. I do not like being average at anything I do so that is my drive. If an extra $80 here and there helps me fly better (which is does) then its def. worth it to me.

60 number two now installed in AM Extra 260, 30%, and nearly ready to run, wx permitting. Mounted up real nice. I like the AM firewall being un-mounted; lets you get the spacing just like you need it. The standoffs pictured are "stock" from Scott. This motor has the Sholl ignition, mounted on the floor of the engine box behind the firewall, with ign. batt on inner side of box.

Better pics later; wore out wrestling with it today...

When your flying 3d, every 1/2 lb off is like another difference of night and day. If your flying circles, then you may mean less to you. And just as crazy as it might seem to some to have all CF to save another lb in weight....I find it just as crazy to spend 4-5 weeks working on cockpit detail or mini machine guns on my plane....[&:]so it will look more real. Frankly...why? Its a toy airplane for goodness sakes...its not like a real plane and your getting ready to fly it to go fight WWII..

So its just different strokes for different fokes. I prefer trying to get my plane to do the "impossible".....and after I have figured out how to do the impossible...trying to see how close to the ground, I can do it without crashing it.

But a savings of 6-8 ounces...does give you the ability to add 6-8 ounces more cockpit detail, slats, spoilerons, retracted flaps, scale landing gear, multiple pilots, working bomb drops, working crop dusters, scale lighting, working brakes, smoke and other stuff you might want....

What would be the standard fuel tank size that would say give you 12-14 minute flights with 5-6 minutes to spare on this motor? 20 ounces or do you need a 24 ounces tank?

Ran the new 60 today with the Xoar 23 x 8 ; didn't tach it, but it sure was spinning on up there. Easy starting, ran just fine. Good enough on half a tank that I installed the cowl.
Couple more pics -

aerobob,

That is a really nice looking 60cc and good clean looking install. Scott just out does himself on these engines. Are you going to get any video of either of the two 60cc you have installed soon so we can see them in action? I plan on getting the 46cc somewhere down the road. Didn't you have the 46cc on a Patty?

Thanks.... Scott *does* do a great job of machining and polishing. Standoffs are very nice, too.

Would love to have some video some day, but only have one guy that takes any, and he works nights, so hardly ever even see him. Hopefully, the Extra will maiden in a couple weeks or less, anyway.

Friend in KC has the 46 on a Patty, his motor is in my shop right now for "break in and adjustment".... he likes to have me setup his for him, then he just bolts 'em on. Did that on his 46 in the Ultimate he has, and he's happy with the Brillelli big time.

aerobob,

I know what you mean about video. I let one of the guys at our field video the maiden on my Edge 540 and most of the video was the ground and a lot of talking. I know this is your 60cc forum but does the 46cc hover your friends Patty?

Bob nice pics...

one comment though. Don't you think that angle brace is asking for trouble? Personally I think its a better solution to epoxy and pin your firewall with dowels.. then fuel proof the whole thing. #1 its a lot lighter #2 if and when those screws vibrate loose that will probably mean an uncontrollable plane to do rtf interference.

Just an observation.

Good observations; I'll watch those. On the inside, they were loctited after mucho tightening, then ca'd and accelerated. If they DO back out - I'm in BIG trouble. I did do some triangle stuff here and there....usually I do just as you recommend, but since these were in the kit, I figured I'd give it a go. I have epoxy-coated everything tonight, since those pics.

I did, and was going to post there, got distracted. WELL done.... that 54 looks like it is REALLY doing the job for you! Today's choices were work on Extra/60cc, fly, or work on friends 46 setup.... guess which won? (I will hate myself for not flying the Yak with it's 60.... just such a great running motor.... man, I love that bird)

The quality of the AM/TOC1 Extra is just amazing. I was shocked, almost. EVERYTHING fit, with no modifications at all, and the covering looks REALLY good, only some minor tightening will be needed. I haven't weighed it yet, but I have a feeling it is gonna be pretty light for it's size. We'll see...

I know this new 60 sure did turn that Xoar.... it is pretty impressive for BRAND NEW.

Bob, any idea why it's called the 366GT instead of 60GT? Curious mind wants to know.
