I recently bought an SPE 40cc engine for my Yak 54. I have run almost an entire gallon threw it and it is dialed in pretty good. My problem is the engine makes a popping noise every so often, could be every two seconds or every five seconds, but clears up in high RPM's. Could this be the timing or ignition? Please help, not sure what it could be. It does not idle very well either.

Not sure jstanton, the ignition does not say anything on the cover. I will look at the manual tonight and see what it says. Have you heard or read about a problem with this stock ignition? Thanks for your help......

Gapple,
That is the ignition the Brillelli replaces. You can go to www.brillelli.com and talk to Scott about it or you can also Talk to Adam at www.bcmaengines.com. He also knows of the problem and sales the CH ignition for it.

Yes, I would suspect timing. It seems puzzling so many seem to have this issue. You can unscrewthe sensor andzip tie it in a slightly retarded position and see what happens. Find the sweet spot, itwill run perfect. Then what?Temporary forever?

really can't tell you if that is your problem, but i have an spe 43 and the timimg was at aboutt 55 deb btdc. from what i've read on these forums is that it should be between 28 and 30 deg btdc. i had to use a zip tie and the some hi-temp slicone. tell us what you found. good luck.
