Dubflyer's engine is running great. The issue he had was the primer bulb leaking air. I recommend to anyone that still has the primer bulb connected to the carb... get rid if it. I solder the nipple closed, but any method will work.

I just received the engine yesterday and will fire it up againg this week-end on the test stand. I have ordered the B&B Muffler which fits this motor ..same as the Quadra 52 Type.

Mark called me while he was running my engine and it sounded Great............It should be ready for prime time as there is already about 4 gals of fuel through it by now. I am expecting a smooth idle and tons of power. I will continue to use 32:1 to complete the 5 gals of breakin mixture and then switch to Belray HR1 @ 40:1 mix.

Thanks Mark for figuring out the air leak.

I do not have an engine box on the Decathlon to mount the engine + pitts style muffler. I am afraid to build one on as I will have a hard time getting it to CG correctly. I have only to use 1" stand-offs to get the cowl and motor aligned.

I will report later when I fly the decathlon in 2 weeks time.

ciao,

Dubflyer

Hi Mark,

I opened my parcel with the venom 45 and found the engine mounting bracket bent where it oviously came in contact with something hard as the coating is also damaged on the edge.[sm=disappointed.gif]

The box looks OK however I need a new bracket as I do not want to risk bending the bracket as it will fracture and fail. I am unable to insert the bolt through the bracket due to it being distorted. see picture below.[sm=spinnyeyes.gif]

How can I get a new brocket..??[sm=drowning.gif]

Thank you,

Martin

Hi Martin!

NOT A PROBLEM!

I have your address here and I'll send a replacement mount tomorrow... I guess the Post Office turned the Gorillas loose on your package!

Please do not run the engine with the mount like it is. There's an extreme "possibility" that it will break from the engine running.

Thanks Mark,

Great service.....

Will be looking out for it ..............in the meantime I am waiting on the B&B quadra 52 side dump Muffler which has the correct bolt hole centers. Must be the same one you used ..?

Almost ready to fly.

Man I like this engine [sm=lol.gif]. Don't know who taught Tim how to make an engine, but he learned well! Mine is a keeper! Took my plane out this afternoon and put 4 more flights on it, and with my V45 swinging a Xoar 21 X 8 @ 7000, I had unlimited vertical. I know the prop played a big part in that too, .. but I could take it from wide open horizontal .. pull vertical ... and the thing just kept the same constant tone while moving straight uphill with no hint of bleeding off! I could hover it, then pull out with authority! I didn't like wide open horizontal too long, because this is a new plane ... and the airframe wasn't proven yet (Had an Ultimate bipe explode on maiden once![X(]. At the field today it was about 5 mph winds, 80 degrees, 69% humidity and elevation at sea level. My Katana is 14.4lbs.

I'm thinking of getting a new plane. Mfuess, how well do you think the V45 will work in a OMP 92" Edge Hybrid?

I am not familiar with that aircraft other than photos. It's very very boxy looking... sort of a semi-profile airplane. It weighs 16+ pounds according to the site. To each his own, personally that's not my kind of aircraft. I'm sure it will fly nice.

Hi Maxime
Can't comment on the Funtana i'm not to familiar with them.
The Ultra RC Giles will take a 45cc, seen one go at the British Freestyles with MVVS 45, and it performed superbly. So thats what my 45cc going into when i finally get round to putting it together.

I agree, I think the 45cc would be a better match with some fire wall strengthening. I'm not sure about Funtana either.

Cheers,

Tim

Over the past year I’ve had a lot of guys ask me about engine standoffs. It took me a while to find good hardware I was satisfied with but I finally had the time to complete them. I only have these in red anodized and they will fit most engines.

A guy in our club, who is real 3D wiz, has a Zenoah G20 in the Funtana X100. I am very impressed with the plane with a 20CC gas in it, so I am sure that one of Tim's 30CC engines would be a blast!

It does, however the Venom 30 is on hold the last I heard. You will have to check with Tim to see what the status of the V30 is. There are lots of choices available to you for that size aircraft.

Hi Mark, my Venom45 cut out on me when I was landing. Normally I have to hit the ignition kill switch to stop it. Would this happen if the idle was set too low and therefore creating a lean mixture? Any suggestions?

It's most likely too low of an idle. When you say cut-out, as in four stroking, or stalling?

Stop dead, fan no move - stall may be the better terminology. But why? It's never done it before.

Several things "could" cause this. Idle too low, engine too hot, lowend too lean, or any combination there of. Your internal screen may be dirty.<---- this is very common.

Mark Fuess,
I sent you a Pm asking for some advice on propeller selection. If you think that the question/answer is pertinent to add to the forum, then make it so. If not, just tell me I am a pain in the keester and to stop asking these damn stupid questions.

Some day I am going to surprise you and make a trip down to your country to visit your flying field. But don't hold your breath, it is not in the new future.
