Perhaps ES would consider a carbon pipe for this engine??

I dont think ES is going to taylor his business because DA put out a new engine. I asked about an 80cc pipe and he said not anytime soon, as it would take a great deal of money to re-tool to make them. I think he only started making the gas pipes as a favor, and know his bread and butter are the pipes for the pattern guys. Plus, I think he runs a very small shop. He would definitely do well with a 80cc pipe, I keep telling him this! But, I bet most people wouldnt buy his pipes for their DA because DA doesnt carry them or sell them, and the average joe thinks if DA doesnt carry a particular product, it must not work with a DA engine. Funny how that works.

No mention on the price, but it needs to be competitive with the zdz and 3w 80. Figure a ZDZ Super 80 is about $1000 with engine, header, cannister, so about $300 cheaper than a DA 100 on stock mufflers.

this is going in my H9 33% CAP 232! This is excellent news for us 33% guys
Mark Leesburg supposedly rockets out of a hover ina H9 33% Edge so im sure they are going after this market like Mr Hanson has stated earlier. All this does is open the market a bit more and give us options for this class airframe. About time and I welcome it!

That is very true Ralph, the myth that it was the cranks was bunk. No way Dave could have known short of the test your mentioned.
Thanks FRB, either way I'll find a lite a useful soulution. You are insightful as usual.

Before someone gets on here and complains about the cantilever crank, the problem with the DA 50 crank was not the design, it was a crankpin hardness problem...There were about 1000 softer pins mixed in with the good ones..Short of doing a Rockwell hardness test on all the pins there is no way to identify the bad ones, the manufacturer has to trust the supplier....The bad ones were replaced...The last 5000 or so DA 50s had ZERO crankpin failures...

Lets be glad they don't make engines for planes that carry people. I would much rather pay for someone inspecting parts than pay for someone answering the phone after they fail. High quality will become critical if they ever get serious about weight reduction. I hope this new engine is a good one and won't be too outrageously priced.

I have no connection to ES other than being a happy customer.

Never even intimated that . And they are not but they are, very good
Laurel & Hardy ("here Stanley---) showed us that no matter how well you provide instructions they can be mis read - as you apparantly did with my referrence.
Jeeze!
lI spent years designing machines and doing field work with users . I am no stranger to QC from vendors.

OK, just got off the phone with DA. They are not taking orders yet, they are waiting for the componants to arrive. When they have a firm date, they will announce and start taking orders. The goal is to sell them at Toledo. The engine is super smooth, between 4 and 4.2 pounds, and will have a stock DA50 type muffler. . As far as the video of Mark Leaseburg flying the 85cc edge. The video will probably be out this week after it's reduced from 12 minutes down to something more watchable.
It's all good!

The Super 80 is $775 from TBM, and occasionally they have a good sale on them every now and then. Hard to beat the $600 price tag of the 3W 80 too. However, I think people are so stuck on DA that if the 85 was $900 they would still buy it over the others.

Well, I would think $775 is the on-sale price. The retail price is still $825 at Rcshowcase :-).
I agree that DA has the best marketing, the best after-sale service and really takes good care of its customers. This is a pretty good deal if you view the high-dollar gas engines as an investment.

I'm thinking the price will not be over 800 and maybe not even 775 for the following reason. I proven 85cc engine is probably worth that much. This engine is not proven. In reality, the real testing is done by us, the end consumer. Probably the worst thing DA could do for their reputation is to overcharge for this engine and then have it fail. I think they will make sure the engine has a season or two of testing before they charge what ZDZ is charging. They can always up the price like they did on the DA 50 after they got it all shook out

Good point, it always seems we the non-sponsered flyers are the Beta testers for everything new to come along. It is funny though, that we buy the first everything that comes along but then are shocked if something goes wrong lol,
