RE: CRRC PRO GF26I
OK. I have fixed the prop shaft problem. Apparently, mine was not tightened all the way against the crankshaft. Locktite and a torque wrench fixed that!
Now, I flew it for the first time today. It tried and succeeded in starting backwards for the first 5 starts. One of the guys said "bump it backwards and see what happens". I did and it started forward right away. Go figure.
Looking at the module you (Jody) pictured, mine is the first one. no black wires. Is this one flawed? Seems to work ok. It ran great, but noticed an occaisional miss. Like an air bubble in the line. No apparent air bubbles though. Checked all of the lines, clunk, tee.
Nothing visible. All new lines.

I not sure but i don't want to rule out that these 2 engines could be doing the same thing for 2 different reasons.
Joe, can you check your timing since your engine didn't start doing this until you changed your module, could be advanced a little to far. You can also get a little more movement out of the sensor by elongating the slots a little bit.
Scratch, it sounds like your engine may not be getting quite a strong enough flip or you hand may be slipping off the prop just before it goes over TDC. For years I would start glow engines by flipping them backwards but in doing so you don't flip them all the way through. The technique is to flip them backwards to a high point of compresion and let them go, the compresion would flip them back in the normal direction of rotation and they would start. You say the timing is spot on @ 28 degrees but you have a high speed miss, classic symptom of over advanced timing. Hmmmmm[sm=50_50.gif]
Most of the time correcting an engine from starting backwards is just a matter of slightly changing your procedure or making a minor adjustment and can be a trial and error process. Try giving it a flip or two more with choke on after it pops, a slightly higher or lower throttle setting, a different grade of gasoline, stick your tounge out when you flip, etc. Wear gloves![sm=eek.gif]

RE: CRRC PRO GF26I
I am looking to get this engine running a lot quieter. I have both the standard muffler and the pitts one but fitting the pitts version requires some rework on my cowl and firewall and thus I haven't yet tried it. Has anyone noticed a noise level improvement using the pitts muffler that would make this rework worth while?
I do notice that partially blocking the outlet pipe on the standard muffler significantly quietens the engine and I am considering making this a permanent fix. Has anyone else done a similar modification?

RE: CRRC PRO GF26I
Jody. I have only had 1 flight out of this engine so far. I haven't spooled it up to full throttle yet. Maybe 3/4 at most, and just for a few seconds. You know, new bird, new engine, etc. The miss is not predictable nad seems to happen when in a banked turn, according to onlookers. Maybe pressure differential on the pump air hole on the carb?
I will check my timing again to see if I was mistaken on the measurement.

RE: CRRC PRO GF26I
I'm pumped, the weather warmed up to 50 yesterday and I was able to break in my 26cc on the test stand. Ran like everyone said right out of the box, no needle adjustments. Ran it for about an hour, with no stops except when my clunk failed in my test tank. I needed to recharge my ignition battery anyway. At the end of the hour, I spiked it up to 8,800 with a 16X8 Top Flight Power Point prop. Since I'm going to mount it on a YAK54 I will likely change to a 17X6 to get more thrust past the cowl.
Now I have a Chung Yang 29/ Brillelli 26 SSR on a SUKHOI 31, and I think that has better pull, but for the money, this engine can get the job done. If I can be one of the lucky ones that don't have the run out problems, I will a happy camper.

RE: CRRC PRO GF26I
Dave,
I have the Cermark Sukhoi 31, version 2, with 69" wings. I have a Brillelli 26-SSR on it and it works great. I think the CRRC 26CC may fit in the cowl better. I think it would be a good match. I love this plane. I do get some jokes about the pinkish Red color. I just tell them it's my Pink Floyd plane. I plan to get some Floyd decals for it.

RE: CRRC PRO GF26I
Hi
Ok started the run in today, went with 95 octane unleaded gas as it is easier to get than 98, only have 91-95-98 unleaded here in NZ.
25-1 mix Penrite oil. The motor was hard to get to prime so cranked with the starter and away she went, running like a Swiss watch at present
Would the lower octane gas have any influence over the running characteristics and the reason for the reverse running that some have experienced.

RE: CRRC PRO GF26I
I've tried 87, 89, 93, and I can't really tell the difference. Mine still pops back when I start. Not a big deal since I put that jam nut on.

RE: CRRC PRO GF26I
Well I want to go fly tomorrow and I don't want to wait for another muffler so some Red Neck Engineering should make it posible. I JB welded the parts back together and then placed a hose clamp to keep it together. The canister is glued to the engine box with RTV.

RE: CRRC PRO GF26I
Lithuania Eastern Europe! I love Jurgis Karirys' Lithuanian air force detailed SU31 plane. My favorite plane of all times is Jurgis Karirys' SU-31 the with with silver dripping on the leading edge, or his one that he won a championship in with Hamilton Watch face on the top of the wings. I have a bunch of his videos on my IPOD. Including one of the flights under the bridge.

RE: CRRC PRO GF26I
Finally got my fix today. I got 8200 RPM on the ground before the first flight and 8300 RPM after the 5th flight. This is with a JFX 17x6, 87 octane 32:1 mix temp in the upper 40's. Next flights will be with a 50:1 mix and I will run it with the cowl off and tweak the carb needles. I need to get another muffler. The hose clamp held it in place but its rattling around and making a mess. The Yak is 10.75 lbs so I would say I'm getting 12+lbs of thrust. This yak needs 15+ lbs of thrust to be 3D capable.

RE: CRRC PRO GF26I
Hey everyone,
If you or someone you know would like to pick up a slightly used CRRC PRO GF26I, I have one for sale. I bought it at the beginning of January and have only run 3/4 of a gallon of 26:1 fuel through it. I loved this motor, but it unfortunately was a little undersized for my RC powered paraglider project and I'm looking to upgrade to the 50cc. Original everything included. Make an offer. Thanks!
