Default Glitches !!

O.k. guys,I know I know I'm new at this but I recently completed my 1/4 scale Cub project.Installed a Zenoah G26 as power. Problem is she is glitching on all servos when engine RPM is increased. Rudder seemed to be the worst of them all so I changed the servo, also at the same time went ahead and changed the Y harness and installed a new receiver, rerouted the antena, still no good. Also tried, in round 2, throttle servo and attached my ignition ground to a different location. Still no good. These engines come pre equiped for RC applications don't they ? You think it could be the ignition, sparkplug, plug wire ? Any ideas are appreciated....I've ran out..[]

Thanks,Ray

I am also a little new to Gas but had the same problem. Here are two things that may be the cause of your probelm:

1. The receiver battery may be to close to the Ignition module or Ignition battery.
2. You may want to invest in a PCM receiver to avoid the noise interference from the engine.

Hope this helps.

Noooooooooooo!!! Not yet!!!
You want to find the problem and fix it, not cover it up!!![:@] Far too many people take this road and crash later. PPM receiver first to locate and correct problems. When problem free then, and only then, go PCM.

Have you checked the plug to verify it's a resistor type? It will have an "R" in the part number. Have you checked the condition of the receiver switch and battery, if any? I presume you're using a magneto, if not, how old and beat up is the igntion battery and switch? . Did you use a metal clevis on the throttle lever? If so, get rid of it.

Agree find the problem first. Make sure you receiver and antenna are far as you can get from the ignition. Second check the servos distances from the engine keep them as far away as possible..................... I installed a throttle servo to close and it gave me interference off the ignition. I put a choke on the TH servo and it cleared up the problem.

These are the ones I used but you can get them at any electronics supply house or radio Shack ect.......a lot cheaper. Put it close to the receiver and rap at lease 3 loops of the servo lead......directions will explain.........you might have to use servo extension to get you min 3 loops use more loops if you have the length.

After install on my G26 H9 ultra stick lite, I got the JR min of a 150ft antenna down engine running no glitches, now going to a PCM system after finding the problem will give me a much safer system than a PCM without the chokes.

i am NO expert but, i had a glitch that i just could not find at all i did it all and moved every thing that was possible and still no go,then just for the hell of it i switch engines,to a DA 50 from a Taurus 52 with a CH ignition the one with the rubber boot for the plug, and after that i didn't have any more trouble. sense then i bought the Bosch plug cap for the CH ignition have not tried it yet to see if the problem is still there.so if you have the CH ignition it might be worth a try,i know there are a lot of guy's using the rubber boot with out any trouble at all. just a thought,
good luck i know i was pulling my hair out trying to find the problem

closetguy,

Just for the heck of it, with the Taurus, did you ever try attaching the ignition ground strap directly to the head instead of a mounting lug or strapping it to the spark plug? By drilling a small hole in the top cooling fin of the head and attaching the ground there you just developed the best gound you can get on the engine. It ALWAYS works. The mounting lugs on the engine are often a poor ground for some reason, and clamps always loosen.

Thanks for the suggestions ! I do have a choke on the TH but not as many loops.I'll try that, TH linkage is a Gold N rod with plastic ball clevis.I'll try the ground suggestion through the head fin. That rubber boot thing I don't think I understand totaly. But I am going to stick with the Zenoah......I gotta figure it out ! Spent too much money just to scrap it ! Some of the guys at the field suggested glow. But no way,she sounds sooo sweet! I'm gonna figure this out !Reciever is at he back of the cockpit,TH servo is located in the front of cockpit behind the gas tank...Further back? Also had a suggestion to use lead foil on the fire wall, anyone heard of this?

You have a completely different ignition set up from what closetguy has with his Taurus, which justifies any confusion about a rubber boot Don't bother with the tin foil. It just makes it shiney. The servo is probably just fine. The problem you are having is likely little more than something loose, or something old that needs replaced.

RFI vs mechanical noise
Good antenna range check engine off... GO untill you get funnies, not just 100 ft.
Example 1 Engine off, range 200 ft, engine running range 100ft... this is how classic RFIi looks
Example 2 Same engine off range, engine running range 10ft.... this is what mechanical noise looks like.... bad rx, switch, servo, metal to metal some where.

That's cool closetguy ! Hey how can I join this B.o.I. club I think I'd fit right in ! Seriuosly, thanks for all the advise ! Everything on the plane is new.... I'm gonna go through the engine and check for anything that might be loose. This weekend will be round three I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks again,
Ray

i still have the Taurus 52 on the shelf and have not put it in another plane yet,but from what other guy's have said RFI is no more with the Bosch cap,i should have tried it but while i was waiting for the igniton to come back from CH,the weather got TO NICE and i had a new Ultra RC YAK to try out,so i stuck the DA on and still flying it,thats why i did not try to attach the ground strap to the cyl. fin like one of those "idiots" had told me to try, sorry SilverSurfer i just can't help it
ENJOY GUY'S!!
