To use a Rcxel ignition with this engine, do i need a new sensor or i can use the one that came with the engine?

You will need to use the sensor that comes with the RcExl ignition. Carefully remove the OEM sensor without breaking the housing, clean out the glue and install the new sensor, don't glue it in until you are sure you have itoriented correctly for the magnets polarity, it should spark as the magnet passes the sensor, not before it gets to it.

I'm on my second CRRC ignition module and this one's giving me trouble. After a couple of flips, it will quit sparking and I'll have to cycle the power to the ignition to get it going again. Then a couple of flips later, same thing. When it has started, it either runs backwards and quits or forwards and quits. There's an audilbe "click" from the module when I cycle the ignition off. Any thoughts?

Clay at Abellrc has been great about warranty stuff but I think I may just go with an RCEXL module if this one is going to be a PITA. I think I have one around here somewhere with a sensor from another project but wanted to see if anyone had dealt with the cycling problem before. I hate not being able to fly the plane the 40 is on. I don't have a problem getting warranty stuff done since I bought it from AbellRC but I don't want to get another module if it's just gonna be a turd or make me nervous about when it's going to be a turd. I'm going hunting in my shop for the RCEXL unit and then put it on. Maybe I'll get the timing dialed in then too.

Was playing around with this 40 from Hi Models which wouldn,t start took it down to auto elec he said very weak spark anyway along with my playing I find the Hall sensor where it screws on to block of motor when you pull it back not hard but lightly the insulation is bare causing it to short out on block heavy tape and a spacer to flicks and its away ,, far cheaper than sending it back to China at my expense so now I ve all most got bench run it in so it,ll be ready for the fokker 190 that.ll make it move along

I have one in a 27% Cap 232. It hovers and pulls out with plenty to spare.

I have mine in an 81" GP Yak 54, came out very, very heavy although I don't know why, think it's about 16.5 lbs dry, only addition is smoke, a Bisson Pitts muffler (tried to get one from Jtec which would have been heavier but they couldn't...and still...can't get their act together after three attempts at making a muffler so I bailed on them) and a better tailwheel. It flys the plane "ok", forget "3D" which is fine by me because I think that stuff is dumb looking anyway. Haven't found the perfect prop for this engine / plane, the 20 x 8 is just a little too much, would like some more RPM, but anything that gets me the RPM doesn't give enough thrust. It also needs the carburetor vent hole plumbed inside the fuselage because it is extremely sensitive to airflow, took a while to get the mixture right. Because I asked for a baffle in the muffler I probably lost some power but I can live with that as it's as quiet as my 90 4 strokes...and the smoke is awesome!

How about diagnostic tools? I found some diagnostic gas engine tools at cyclone toy and hobby. One is a hall sensor replacment thing that sends a signal to the ignition, for ignition testing. The other is a rig that tests the hall sensor. They also have an optically isolated engine kill switch. These are all under $10. I have orderd them all, cant wait!

Hey guys, I bought a 74 inch Great Planes Extra 300s, im going to call Jody and buy one off these CRRC 40's. They seem to be a good lil engine, im still kinda dizzy after reading through this whole thread, lol. Im going to buy it from Jody due to the fact that he assembles them and test run them, im also gonna get the rc excel ignition for it. Jody if you read this, i'll give you a call within the next two weeks to order it, my funds are a lil low, lol.

Had my 40 on a Goldberg SU-26MX; flew fair but about shook the tail off.

Performance was okay. The Sukhoi wouldn't truely hover but cam close. I do fly at 5200' MSL though. At SL I'm sure it would do better. I had similar results with props. 20X8 seemed best although it did not put out the RPM I wanted. Been too long to remember what it tached. Sorry.

SO, what is the consensus on props now? Anyone have any thoughts on a fair 3D setup?

Anyone put a 40 on an Aeroworks 35cc bird?

Thanks,

R21

We have one on an AW 35cc Extra, it's got a 20x8 Xoar prop and spins it 6500 RPM. Plane weighs 12-1/2 lbs, engine pulls 19 pounds of thrust at see level. Just got back from the field flying it, it's a very good combo, one of our favorite planes to fly.
