What happened to the metal cap on the ignition, did you take it off?

OK I had a look at a site that sells them. They don't have caps on that size for some reason.

You can not just change the cap on an RCEXL to 1/4x32.
The CH steel cap is build from many pices on to a lead. It is very HARD to correctly splice a HT lead.
WE can sell the parts to let you build a cap on too your ignition.

Hello Liquid TR,

Great project you got here! Thank you to share it.

About the original OS carb, may be you could use this pump from Webra:

All the best,
Benoit

Thank you Benoit,

Ok Here's an update on the project:

Im going with a walbro carb conversion for this project, as it has a diaphram pump and regulator on it and meters easier than glow carb.

Actually Ive run into a problem today. I received my package of walbro carb, gaskets and adaptor flange for EVO26.

The flange has a 17mm outer diameter throat and 160FX has a throat of 15mm. so unfortunately its not a bolt-on fit..

The good news is the walbro carb clears the thrust washer so it wont be a problem once I sort out the adaptor flange.

On another note, this engine with gasoline is doing fantastic!

Here's a couple of RPM readings (with glow carb) you all will enjoy:

All with Bisson Pitts muffler - same day, same fuel.
using single 1500 mAh LiPo cell to power RCExl ignition.

APC 17x8 - 8400 RPM
JXF wood 17x8W - 7800 RPM
JXF wood 18x8W - 7400 RPM (unbelievable thrust!)

The transition is incredible even with 18x8.. no lag what so ever, can idle around 1600 rpm with ease..

I will upload a video of the engine running soon.

I also want to say, one of these conversions will be used with a MVVS 26CC tuned pipe. I bet the numbers will go up even more!

This might turn out to be the best 26CC conversion.

Im still using the 7:1 oil ratio gasoline, buy I will drop to 10:1 once I sort out the walbro adaptor and report back with all the tach readings.

Heres a pic of my engine[although its not an OS],but this post does deal with the adaptor.I made the adaptors on my lathe. The carb is a 8-9 MM i blieve. Its the same size as the throat on the aaptor, maybe a little larger.
Anyway, its a WA59 and believe its off a 31cc weedie. The reason i like it is it has the stubby needles with the large screwdriver slot, and it has the large triangular shaped throttle plate for an easy hookup with at least to different styles. You wont find the number but it has a 20 stamped in the throat. All small walbros use the same distance on the bolts. You can use any carb you want.I looked at a couple i have here. The one that i would suggest first would be a WT160-B.It comes from small stihl power equipment, weedies.
The one adaptor on the right of the pic is one i made for my ASP .91 but i learned that ABC style engines wont work right and that i needed a ringed engine. So in short conversation, thats an extra that im not going to use.Im going to send you a PM.The bottom dimension of the adaptor is 14-15MM.Its already drilled and tapped for a walbro using 8-or 10x32 bolts. You cant really see it but the back side of the adaptor is flat so it will sit close to the cylinder with out hitting it.Im just posting this info so it might help.
OOOOOPPPSS!Here they are.

Hi Buck,

well you forgot to upload the images i guess

Thank you for the offer, but Im going to visit a friend of mine tomorrow, he has a lathe workshop.

He will make 2 new copies of the original EVO26 GT flange, which will fit the 160FX venturi opening. I'll shoot some photos and upload the conversion images here.

hopefully I'll try the walbro carb on saturday.

RCExcl ignition, and we will see if the Evo carb works on sunday.
I'll post the pictures of the modified EVO carb flange tomorrow.

SunShyne: I guess we will start to see mass produced gasoline conversion parts for current glow engines soon hit the market as the price for glow plugs and glow fuel are in the boundry of absurd.

From now on I refuse to pay over 40USD for a gallon of 15% Omega fuel which wont last a full weekend of flying..

Last week I bought my last gallon of WildCat 5% nitro fuel for my small 2 stroke glow engines - I guess I wont be flying those much either..

they already are. 6 to 10 bucks for a glow plug and 23 dollars for a gallon of omega 10% is already enough.

Considering Morgan is right next door in LA, it's possible they have worked out some other shipping arrangements that save a lot of expense. Shipping cost is a major expense today. Maybe some guy fill up his pickup truck once a month and drives it over. It's going to be a lot cheaper than UPS or freight, not even considering hazmat.

They do buy it pallet loads at a time and ship FTL so there might not be a hazmat charge on it, Buying and shipping UPS will eat your lunch.

That's why your fuel is cheaper.

Yeah, it's a lot of fun. It's more and more challenging as the engines get larger.

I look forward to it, I miss being able to run my 160fx, its such a great motor but the cost of glow and the issues of pumps etc made me take it off

OK, here is a basic conversion for EVO 26 Gasser engine Carb flange to fit the 160FX.

The original flange:

I drilled out the original flange with a 15mm drill bit:

Then I cut away the remaining throat with a metal saw on the drill bit:

I cleaned up the remaining burr with a sanding paper dremel bit:

Now its time for the new 15mm throat.
I bought a piece of 15mm OD and 13mm ID stainless steel pipe.
The reason I chose steel was the tapping would be more durable than aluminum as its only 2mm at each end.

And the 17mm long steel throat gets into the carb flange throat nice and snug.

There is no easy way to bind aluminum to stainless steel,
so I mixed up a small amount of Devcon Steel epoxy (same as JB Weld) and applied to the joining surfaces.
A small amount is more than enough to hold them together and seal for any airleaks.

Then I positioned the flange on the engine, marked the places to be tapped for mounting the flange on the engine from sides, then drill & tap away.

Its important to mark the points to be drilled before putting on the O-ring as it should crush between the engine throat and flange; and seal nicely.

Unfortunalety electricity went out last night because of the storm, before I could finish the job. I couldnt do the back-plate tapping for pump pressure. No trials today..

I'll finish up the back plate pressure fitting job asap and hook up the walbro carb and give it a try in a couple of days.

What was the OD diameter of the stub on the original evo adaptor.

OD was 17mm. ID was 13mm. If I had turned it down to 15 by lathe, It wouldnt hold enough material for a screw.
