Hi guys.
I'm still looking for a two size motor. I was thinking of an MVVS58 for 50 and 75cc upgrade path but it seemed too heavy for a 50.
So I'm looking at the 116 for 75cc and 100cc...
The BME 116 comes in a 5.5AUW with mufflers and ignition, comparable to a DA85. And almost 2hp more than a DA 100, or so BME claims.
So chime in! Is this a good engine? What experiences do people have with BME? Performance is more important to me than $ for the candidate engine.
Cheers,
Andrew.

Why would a 116 size engine be compared to a 100. Evolution 116 and BME 116 would be fair.

I had one of the first 115's made and it is still running today. It was pushed pretty hard too. You will not find a lighter or more powerful engine in that cc range. Don't forget, BME makes a 58cc that weighs 3lbs1oz with muffler and it's a brute too.
If you do buy one, baffle it well as you would with any other engine for peak performance and longevity.

These are great replies so far. Thanks guys
RTK, good insights, do you think it's possible to run the 116 in a75cc airframe?
Cheers,
Andrew

but throttle management would be a must.

I had one of the very first 115's that keith sent out the door. I had read a lot of people we're having problems getting to run correctly , or even at all. I got nervous with it , and sold it brand new to a guy on here called Altavillian. Since then , Tom and Andy have bought the BME business from keith , got the motor running really , really good now. Not to mention coming out with a few more engines to boot like the 58cc extreme and the new 150cc. I now own the 58cc motor , and now that the 116 is all fixed up good , i'm picking one of those up sometime after Christmas. You wait....BME WILL be back in the main stream of the engines out there , right in line with DA , 3W , ZDZ ect.....just give em some time.

I am always looking forward to more engines coming around with tons of power and reliability.
There are several places the "between" sized engines will be suited. A BME 116 is so light that it can be put in an 85cc bird, but migt be too light in most places for a plane of larger dimentions. I wouldnt plan on buying the engine for two planes. Its hard enough to buy for one. There will always be another plane option later. Just buy the one you want now, and dont think too hard about it.

The 116 works out better than many would imagine in some of the lighter birds. It does require that a little extra work be executed with battery locations and things but there's generally no problem. Using Wild Hare as an example, their new 35% Extra, Edge, and 40% Giles work the c/g out better with a real light engine up front. They fly extremely well with an 85 but become unlimited in power with a 100 and up. Make it a light 100 plus and you just go nuts with goodness

arobatx,
What are you looking to put the 116 in? I very interested in the applications people are choosing for this powerplant.
Cheers,
Andrew.

Been looking for a twin with more power than the GT80, that will fit in an older H9 33% Sukhoi. Some of the new singles have great power, but I am getting tired of the shaking. I have a couple of other large singles already, so I am ready for something smooth. The DL and DA 100's are 11-1/2" wide cap to cap...The extra inch would make the modification to the cowl much less significant, if at all from my measurements. Throttle management is no issue, been overpowering things due to what works, fits, or what is cost effective for me for a long time now. The 116 would certainly be well suited for many other projects going forward as well. I'll have to give it some thought now, and decide if I want to try a DL100 and save some $$, or go with a BME since I've not yet had one. Thanks again for the information!

I used to have a DL100 on a 35% extreme flight yak was a bit underpower went to a DLE111 and was it was really nice with a 28x10 i was really happy untill the crank bearing ate the crankshaft and bits went to the cylinder ruining everything! but performance was really good and was tempted to buy another DLE111 but I decided to get a bme 116. its on the way now but from what i researched this would make the 35% float like it was on a da 85 and have more power than the dle111! yeah!!!
i was tempted to buy a BME 150 for $100 more but tom said it might be too diffcult to be hovering a few clicks over idle
