The WORD from someone who KNOWS engines and ignitions...
Bill has more time running gassers then almost anyone else on this or any other forum..
He speaks from personal EXPERIENCE and flying, not hearsay from some newbie who heard it from someone who heard it
FWIW, I didn't reject any DLE 30s, they came from nervous customers...I changed nothing before sending them to Bill....

This argument is so stupid it defies reason...It doesn't take a rocket scientist to make a rear carb for ANY two stroke...ANY machinist can take a few measurements and make a case...The way Rich did it is the hard way, all manually...It takes very little skill to mill off the back of a side intake case, plug what's left of the holes in the side, and make a G10 cover that fits over the hole...Get a reed assembly from any other Chinese engine, drill a few holes for the carb..I made one, worked well, gave it to TKG...He's using it on a test stand engine..
NOBODY had to make any blueprints for anything, or STEAL someone's design..A high school machine shop class could easily do it..
Rich did a helluva job with his manual machines...DLE didn't have to COPY anything, they already had the original case..They changed the mold to omit the side part and made a hole in the back for the reed...It's ELEMENTARY, not even a challenge, unless like Rich did, use manual machines...
I guess they ALL copied the DA 50...Or a Ryobi weedeater, I had a Ryobi 28cc made EXACTLY the same, at least 20 years ago...It had rail mounts and a mag ignition (They must have copied Zenoah, the coil looks the same) It came with a header and long cast motor mount....It was sold by Hobby Lobby as a combination with an airplane..There was one at the old QSAA in Vegas WAAAY back there....
Get over it guys, there's nothing new under the sun....Unless someone copies our not yet finished 80cc racing opposed twin with TWO rotary valves, one front, one rear, COMPLETELY made in Flagstaff, Arizona, USA..Pistons, cylinders, crank, rods, crankcase, etc..ALL made on CNC machines with F@#$% near perfect tolerances by a hot rod record holding legendary machinist..
I could tell ya but you know the rest [>:]

Bill,
You say you have a dle 30 that won't stop running at the idle stop? Just wondering if this is the same thing I'm dealing with. When I get my new head gasket (yep, screwed mine up) I'll try it again.

I have a customer who WANTS a side carb DLE....I have a new one, he will get it...
I someone wants a side carb engine when they're no longer made they could buy a new side carb crankcase and reeds, D I Y ...No big deal, takes about 15 minutes if you're slow and don't have the new reeds in the new side case..
Or trade some dissatissfied side case owner for a new rear case version..They run the same..
The side case is better, shorter standoffs, less chance for vibration....

Ralph,
That PM I sent about wanting a couple more myself...I also want the side carb if you get them...I may eventually want another, that one with the rear intake for a narrow cowled plane, but the ones I mentioned needing are for shorter, wider cowls, so I need side carb engines if I can find them.
Thanks for your great service on the ZG62 as well!

Temps have dropped here and i`m still running my reed stuffed dle30s. The metal based epoxy i used is still unchanged, just as the samples i immersed in fuel for 6 weeks remained perfect.
They take about 15seconds more warm up and run great from 1850 to 9000rpm on the ground. One can only guess what it does unloaded in the air. What i will say is at level WOT i can go to idle and pull a large round loop with the model whistling as it levels out 18x8apc.
One of the motors has had some internal work done now to the cylinder and the piston. The ports have been changed to allow more and adjusted flow direction and the piston has had similar with a hole also added for the boost port. It is a very strong runnig motor and burbles a bit at very low throttle.

Look and see if there is a idle hole in your throttle plate?

No solder is needed if you use a pop rivet to plug hole.Or the kindof rivet you peen over. Capt,n

EDIT...I read so much about soldering the hole shut so the engine would choke better....I thought you guys was talking about that hole. Another reason I have not seen to many throttle plates with holes. Now after re-reading the prior postings & the following postings I understand. The pop riviet may work...but only on a choke plate....if the hole is in the right spot. Solder would be best.....make sure it sticks good though! Capt,n

There isno hole in the throttle valve on a DLE30 carb, there is a tiny notch at the idle orfice. If it won't die with the valve all the way closed there has to be some air coming in some place.
Sam, please wait until you get your gaskets before you try any of these ideas.
Pop rivet?

[/quote Head gasket?Never seen a DL 30 with a head gasket, maybe cylinder base gasket.I'm sorry I messed up .Idle stop is what I set on the trams. I did not mean idle stop on the carb.

I've been flying my DLE 30 everyday for about 2 weeks now
I have over 200 flights on my 68" Nitroplanes Katana 120 w/ DLE30
I flew 10 times today
I was able to fly through the winter so my engine was broken in sooner than almost anybody
It runs flawlessly and never dies in the air or on the ground
I picked up a gallon of gas again today,, 3 bucks and use about 6oz per 12 minute flight
Not bad for a 25% aerobatic plane
I fly mostly 3D stall and throttle pump type flying, rolling harrier all over the place and high alpha knife-edge forever
Torque rolls and vertical climbs galore with no problems
Long flatspins from a high altitude
great little motor, talk about "stick time"
This is one of the few things that met my expectations
I bought from Peakmodels and notice Hobby king has same engine priced @ $250.00 [X(]
Everything holds up fine all I did was put a NGK cm6 plug in it

There you are, are you going to be back on Tuesday?

I kinda liked the three days off.
Grump no two.

People would get all bent if they had to spend a mnimum of $7.00 a plug....
