Can you tell me if this new RCGF 15cc engine will fit into a 40 size Hangar 9 P-51 Mustang PTS? Can you also tell me do you know of any 40 size warbirds this engine will be able to fit into? My flying field is somewhat limited to 40 size airplanes for now until more trees are cut down.

DryPipe.
Good Morning drypipe, Can you give me a call and I will do my best to help you with your questions. I do not have a 40 size p 51 that I can get measurements off of.

If you get a moment take a look at the Katana V2 .46 size plane I put a 15cc RCGF engine on. I have been flying it, and I like the size of the plane.

I have pictures of it in Post #: 32 . Let me know if I can help you in any way.

Remember once you go GAS ALL YOU DO IS FLIP AND FLY!!

gasrchobbyengines,

I have the dimensions for the 40 size Hangar 9 P-51 Mustang PTS that I would like to convert to the RCGF 15cc engine:

1. Fire Wall: 85w mm X 122L mm ( 3.35"W X 4.80"L ). OR 3 7/20" X 4 8/10"

2. Wing Span: 58.25"

3. Length: 50.25"

4. Wing Area: 626 sq in.

4. Flying Weight: 6.5 to 7 Lbs.

Based on these numbers, can the RCGF 15c engine fit on and fly the Mustang?

Good Morning, apalsson, I agree with you that there are some planes that are just too small for a gas engine to be put on.

I fly a Katana V2 .46 size plane and it floats right in for a landing, In fact it will 3D like no other plane I have ever flown. It has the 15cc RCGF GAS engine on it.
G'day mate,

Have you made a video of your Katana yet? It would be great to see it fly with the 15cc
I like Katana's - to me, they are a great combination of a sport flier and a serious aerobat! [sm=thumbup.gif]

I posted earlierabout my problems with the 15. Play in the crank and the crankcase leaking. My buddy fixed it for me. He shimmed the crank and found that they used silicone to seal the crank. Of course the gas ate the silicone and blew it out. He used a sealant that was compatable with gas. Have my engine back and running.

What spakplug this engine uses?

Is there a smaller and lighter ignition package and carburator that could be adapted in order to save a significant amount of weight?

How about a lighter muffler?

Martin

Hello All,

I have a nitro planes extra 330 runs with an ASP 91 4T glow engine. I just wandering to change it to a gas engine.
http://www.nitroplanes.com/ni3dex339063.html

It's 3,1 kilo without fuel - should be at 3,5 with the gas engine. Is the 15cc is enought for me or I need the 20cc? Not for hardcore 3D, just an acrobatic flight.

Goog morning, I have not gotten any video yet, I have been having WAY to much fun flying the plane to even slow it down long enough to take any video.

I want to try as soon as the weather clears up a bit to get video of the plane hovering and flying. So far the Katana V2 .46 with the RCGF 15cc Gas engine on it has been the most fun plane I have ever flown~@$%!!!!!!

Is that a 20 or a 15 cc engine on your Stick ?

Tommyrcmodels, Is there a possibility of you guys coming out with a similar displaced engine (15-20cc)? This is such a great size. The thing is, we need these for our smaller warbirds and it would really be nice to see an offering with a rear carb, rear exhaust, so they can fit inside the cowlings. I am very interested in one for a Pica FW 190 I have. There are so many .60 sized warbirds out there that could benefit from gas.

Thanks for your reply but tell me, what is the AUW of your Stick, what size prop do you use and at what rpm does the 15cc spin it.

A flying buddy of mine plans to power a similar size Aero Works Extra 300 with one of these engines and I would appreciate if you could post a picture of your model highlighting the engine install.

Hi !

I have installed this engine on my GP CAP580, The engine worked very well initially but after 3 flights of 8-10 min. duration, it stopped working beyond fast idle. No matter what I do, engine quits when I try to take it beyond 3000 RPM.

Any Suggestions ? I have tried playing around with needle setting but I know that isn't a problem. (How about reeds ? I havent checked that yet.)

It sounds like CDI failure or plug boot fit...

RCGF now has a 2 year warranty on their engines. I'd send it back asap to the distributor from whom you purchased it from. Did you purchase it from a U.S. distributor? Warranty, warranty warranty will protect you!.

Check the spark plug too... The chinese cm-6 are notorious for being all over the map in terms of working properly. Get a true NGK CM-6..

Cheers

Henry,

You once sold the RCGF engines? I was told by Horizon Hobby that their Zenoah 20cc draws off 2.75 amps from the ignition battery and I have read that the RCGF 20cc draws 650ma = 0.65 amps? Not 100% sure about that figure.

Which engine do you think is the best 20cc engine?

The one from Horizon - 100% hands down is the better quality of the two engines and the performance is pretty darned good too..

You can get even better versions of that same engine lighter and fitted with RC Excel ignitions (which brings the current draw down low) and they are even better still - Try RC Ignitions - he may be able to point you in the right direction for that.

Aussiesteve,

RC Ignitions. Ok I Googled them and I keep getting a broken link? Can you give me their web site address?
Do they take the 20Ei Zenoah engine and replace the stock ignition unti with one of their ignition box upgrade?

Ignition box conversion is what they do with the Zenoah engine?

Does NGK make CM6 mini plug ?
As you know, this one uses glow plug size spark plug & I haven't seen them made by any standard plug manufacturing co.

Go to Bp Hobbies. They also sell the RCGF engines and they may have the spark plug parts and all other RCGF engine parts you may need. They also have the mechanic's address in NJ U.S.A. where they recommend where you can have your RCGF engine serviced.

If your engine is still under warranty, I suggest you send it back to the distributor asap.

Nice Pics!
