i have a g-62 for my g.p. 1/3 scale pitts, i have bench run it, runs well with exception of low rpm vibration, i am comfortable cranking this engine, i have had only 1 kick back & learned real quick how to avoid this, what i want to know is what would be the advantges of installing the $124 ignition system???
would it lower the weight of the engine????
would it help the idle chracteristics $124 worth????
would it crank $124 easier????
help!!! is it worth the money, or does anyone have a used one i can buy for cheap!!!!!!!!

Well worth the money. Does all of the above. Does away with the weight of the flywheel. Idle vibration is very low as is the idle speed. Starts very easily. In fact , dont turn it over with the ign on without a good grip on a blade as it can fire .Also gets rid of the weight of the spring starter, although I still use mine for safety purposes I use both CH and Richtmuth Igns.

It will start much easier with the timing retarded and the necessity of snapping it past the magnet contact is gone, but you said you have mastered starting. The weight advantage is very little on this particular conversion combo, and not worth it IMO,since the flywheel is already vestigal,a part of the coil system remains in place on this conversion I beleive ,and you did not say you were using a spring starter. It will improve the idle, but only you can decide if its worth the $.If its nearly new,an option is to sell it and buy aFox,Bison, taurus,ZDZ etc...which are designed with an electronic ignition, and which will be quite a bit lighter too....As time goes on you will see more and more G62 type engines on the used market for this reason IMO

I love my Synchro Spark on my G62, I think it was worth the price for ease of starting alone. I think as time goes by you will see Zenoah abandon the magneto for something similar to the C&H unit. They have already responded to user input with the addition of the straight shot throttle adapter on all new G62's.

Don't hold your breath..I have been making the same type adapter for 15 years..They couldn't even round off the corners on that cheap(?) 15 dollar piece of bakelite....They put the retail prices of parts so high that the dealer price is higher than the retail price of the same part at a chainsaw shop..Like $6.95 for a $2.00spark plug....The engines should come with it already installed.....
Yes, I sell Zenoah engines --when I can send in a $500.00 miminum order....If they read this I'll probably get cut off altogether.....

Bill ..How many ignitions failed on the ZDZ engines last year ? I have been making ignitions for 15 years..Please explain how I could make "much better timing"....Thank you...Mine are guaranteed for life and use less than 200 MA current at ANY rpm, controlled by mechanical advance or electronic syncro spark.....

I am in the process of buying a G-62
Could you expand on your statments above as I am also interested in elecronic ing. for this G-62 as the price for the engine is about 380.00 new. This would tell me what my total cost and expectaions should be.
Fox cost is about 675.00 since I can't find one less expensive or used

Thanks JR

Current price on a ZDZ 60cc is $490 plus battery and muffler ......weight is 4.2#
rc ign is quite correct that zdz had a real failure problem about a year ago with the ignition model they used at that time, but to be fair I think he also knows that the current "falkon" ignition is just about bullet proof.
If he says a converted G62 weighs "about" 4#,who am I to argue with him?however if you buy one why not weigh it and let us know?
I dont know what his conversion price is currently, but it would have to be in the $100 range to just equal the cost on a ZDZ,and that is based on your cost of $380 for the Zenoah ,which lists at $425.Also are you taking freight into account, first getting the G62,and then having the conversion done.
Lastly are you satisfied that the Zenoah intake system is the equal of the 3W,ZDZ,rear rotary setup?

I have not heard good or bad about either of them, this will be my first large engine the, only other is a Roush or A & M, Sachs D 3.1 / 3.4 (NIB) so I am kind of up in the air. Price sometimes takes part in a decision the 380.00 is pick up locally no freight etc..
Intake...... I have no idea as I would need to experience both of these engines to really find out, but it is beginning to look like I have to fit this in a twin down the road and the cowl is 9 - 9 1/2" wide I have to watch the cowl, leading edge spar, wing spars and landing gear in that area.
unfortunately one engine doesn't fit all the aircraft I have or would like to build. Than again my budget can't afford all the engines either.

Yeah....there is no such thing as the perfect engine for all applications I guess.Good reason to have more than 1.......no?
Incidentally that twin you want to build someday must be one big mother if you are going to need two 60cc engines.A Ziroli twin Beech,or DC3 are more than happy with a pair of 40cc engines for example......

So many planes...so little time!
A biplane in the 72, 77, 90", 26.5% Skybolt - 1/2 completed, F8F bearcat, spitfire - 73, 88, 100" using G-38, G - 45, G- 62, Skyrocket twin using 25cc, Bristol beaufighter 120" using 25cc - 35cc, Don Smith Mosquito
http://www.geocities.com/clubamac222/page5.html
D.H. MOSQUITO, - WEIGHT: 48IBS, WINGSPAN: 121”, LENGTH: 94”, Using ENGINE SIZE: 2 X 38cc.
That means I have to get rid of the smaller aircraft, some byron, century jet, Dave platt, bob Holman, etc. to make some room, engines to but that’s another story. So now you know what I have practically started, ordered and looking into, seems to be a shortage of cash though as bigger may be better but ...........ouch cost is not what I would prefer.
Thanks JR
