The DL50 is my first gasser and I am wondering if locating the throttle servo here is ok. Wondering if I will be getting any type of srpay out of the carb.

Thanks

Dan4466 you should be fine but you need to go to lowes or hardware store and purchase at lowes they are called fender washers and are one inch with 1/8 " hole and put on each side of your firewall where your standoffs mount or you will have trouble keeping them tight. Hope this might help. Fooped You will have to drill the hole out a little.

More noise the better as far as I am concerned, but we are close to suburbia.

Sorry guys but this thread is too long to find the information and I'm tired of doing searches. Please can someone direct me to a place where I can get all the dimensions for this engine? like hopefully drawiings? I want to see if it will fit in my 1/4 scale supercub cowl. Thanks

Dave

Thanks. I'd found that site but didn't know it was a DL50. It is a DL50 right? Even though they call it an Aerovate Engine? It looks like the length might give me a problem, it's about an inch and a quarter too long. Is there a similar but shorter engine like maybe with the carb on the side? Or a twin of about this same weight and power (or more power)? Thanks for indulging me.

No Aerovate engines are not the same as a DL.

Nedyob,

I have the Dietrich 260 with a DL50. I used the stock DL standoffs and it was a perfect fit.

Jim,
How long area the stock stand offs? My plane came with the beam type engine mount and theres a real wide gap between the spinner and the cowl. Just want to know how long they area so I can order a set from Denny.

Nedyob,

Mine on the second generation DL50 are 2-11/16" Is your motor a first or second generation. I'm not sure if your engine and mine have the same dimensions. Hope this helps. If you need anything else let me know.

RE: DL-50 engine

Mine is the first generation. I will mesure the old style beam motor mounts again and see how it compares to the new stand offs. Thanks again for the info, Jim.
NEDYOB

I just mesured the the old style beams on my engine and they are 2 11/16. So I might get by with the 2 1/2 inch stand offs.

Here's my issue.. My club flies off of concrete, but it's old concrete and there's occasional debris/small pebbles that are tearing the crap out of my wood props. I have a DL50 on a Cap232. Are carbon better for this type of environment? Has anyone ever used a 22x10 APC? That's the only prop that I can find that isn't wood or carbon that would fit the DL50. Any suggestions guys?

RE: DL-50 engine

I tried an APC for the same reason. It was way too flexible and it flattened out at higher speeds. I tached the engine at 9000 on the ground and hadn't even gotten to full throttle. I never tried it in the air.

RE: DL-50 engine

I here APC is getting out of the big props as there are coming apart in the air and taking out the airplane.

I thought that they had dropped their line of large props years ago. Folks must be buying old inventory.

I've got this on a 14lb. Cap232. Any reason I couldn't go with a 20x10 Carbon 3 Blade? Less ground clearance, but still ample power for such a light plane right?

RadarController,

I recently had this engine on a RC Guys 1/3 Pitts weighing about the same, and it had gobs of power and unlimited vertical with a PT Models 21x10 3-blade CF. The prop is significantly less efficient than a 2-blade 22x8 or 23x8, so you wouldn't want to use it on a heavier model, however. But as someone else said on another thread, the 3-blade CF "looks killa"![8D]

The engine is a fantastic powerplant and it almost hurt to take it out of the Pitts, but I wanted to install a 50cc twin so that everything would fit under the cowl with no cylinder head sticking out.
