I put mine on a wooden saw horse, it can shake much like the fuselage does.

Thinking of putting one of these in an old Great Planes Big Stick 60 and would like to know whereabouts is the best starting location for the CG for best all around flight performance, and also should ALL thrust lines be kept at '0' degrees as specified on the plans.

I have my Ultra Stick set with zero thrust offset, but have a little rudder to throttle mix.

With the DLE 20 you may have to put the servos in the tail?

At least you can out the tank on the CG

Use some 3 1/2" wheels

it will need to be a tail dragger to clear the carb?

Carb no, 17 inch prop yes?

The Big Sticks from Great Planes come more or less with the intentions of it being a nose wheel plane. The instruction are scant for making it a tail dragger.

The Ultra Sticks have a symmetrical airfoil, no dihedral, bigger control surfaces, lighter weight, tail dragger.

I love Ultra Sticks and have flown them for years but you cannot get them right now.

G`Day<div>Am thinking of buying the Pitts wrap around muffler for the DLE20cc gas engine, the Box canister muffler that came with the engine sticks out the side by 1'', does the Pitts muffler stick out less on the side or the same? Needs to go inside the cowl of a P-51 60 size!</div><div> </div><div>Also how much air flow does this engine need to stay cool? </div><div>I have air intake just under the cowl behind the prop. Is this enough?</div><div>

as far as cooling air goes it is not the size of the intake that really maters it is the size of the outlet. you will need about 3 to 1 outlet to inlet

This is good for all the larger sticks;

Create a block of wood to put between the fuse & the L-G (1/2" or thicker)
Make it about 3/8" longer in front of & behind L-G. Harden the groove the L-G sits in, then when finished, drill some lightening holes in the L-G groove.
For just a few ounces weight you'll be able to increase your prop-to-ground clearance.

I flew mine once today, huge winds, but that brings me up to 18 flights. No dead sticks, huge power with the Vess 17-6, dare I try a 18-6? It is really fast now, I hate to try a 10 or 12 pitch prop. I really don't think Ultra Sticks are supposed to go this fast. It was cold, about 50F, so the lift and power was very impressive today.

Man I had that 17x8 wind surfing today at idle and two clicks...see vid above....

Can we do thrust reversers?

Hey Mr Hoffman, I had the 18x6 on there already... it was my favorite for my flying....Got 8200 out of it... got some new design 18x6 on order....should spool up to mid 8k....I truly need a bigger plane with this motor....The 17x8 in above vid rarely got over half stick....half stick on my setup is just below half throttle.

The second DLE-20 I have is going on a profile 3D plane, an OMP Razor Yak. What prop is appropriate for it, Vess 19A? This engine is incredible...

RE: NEW DLE 20cc Gasser! (Data & Links 1st Post)

Dont know until someone tries it. I look for as big a prop as I can get and still get spool up....gets me out ot trouble when I need...otherwise give me good airflow over control surfaces when in low power maneuvering.

There are also two schools of thought on prop pitch...on my Saito profiles I love the 4 pitch. 6 and 8 are different feel, maybe for different style. Now on the other hand...I tried a 33x8 on my DA150 Extra....Did not like the run out feel...prop felt done at half throttle....could hover and do pogosticks with it but regular aerobatics were not as much fun...

My guess based on absolutely no info:D...the 19 might take it out of the power band...

I had a Funtana 125 that I flew with an RCGF/Aeorovate 26cc. They're rated at the same power as the DLE 20 but are 8oz (or so) heavier. At 10.5lbs., it flew great. Take that down to 10lbs even with no loss of power and.... I think that might prove out to be pretty nice?

BTW, APC 18x6w worked really well on that combo. No surprise here if it was found that prop would work well on a lightly loaded DLE 20 as well.... if you have the clearance for that big a prop.

Most of the discussion about planes for this is engine is about 3D flying. How do you think the DLE 20 wouldwork in the Top Flite P-40 Warhawk ARF .60-.91? I know it's just speculation but I want to hear some opinions.

P-40 Specs
REQUIRES: Engine: .60 - .91 cu in (10 - 15cc) 2-stroke
OR .90 - 1.20 cu in (15 - 20cc) 4-stroke
Distance from firewall to prop: 5-7/8"
Wingspan: 64.5"
Wing Area: 722 sq in
Weight: 9.75 - 10lb
