i think all you have to do is call desert and tell them you need the ? mark header setup for an EF 87 Yak and they will know what you are talking about.

Oh Boy, just sold one of my helis for $2k..... who has the best prices on the DA50? If I am not concerned with noise, are the stock mufflers cool?? Or should I get the pipe? I probably wouldn't notice the difference in performance (heli geek)

thanks, Mike

Since sound & power is not top concern... skip the pipe and save weight...

I like the sound and power of the stock DA muffler just fine... You can order your engine direct or contact many of dealers out there... Wild Hare carries them, and Chief Airfract offers free shipping...

The Futaba S5050 would be O.K., but it's heavy at over 4 oz. and slow at .20 at 6 volts... S9152 is a little better choice in Futaba line

However, the HiTec 5995TG is the stuff IMHO... 333 oz in at 6 volt and about 2.25 oz.... The JR-8611 would be my second choice...

For those of you not wanting to use the supplied rudder servo arm with the plastic disk [link=http://www.swbmfg.com]SWB[/link] is making an arm specifically for this plane.
I dont know when it will be ready but we'll keep you posted.

Wayne,

What size does the arm need to be. I had initally planed to pull the arm out of my 2.3 Extra (Made from a Sure-Link Bellcrank & Air-wild Uni-Hub) but if it's smaller in size or the Geometry is really critical, I'll go another route. I know for sure that I dont want to use a nylon servo wheel on an 8611 in a single servo application. :-)

Dave,
Mine got here yesterday. Its going to take longer than a one day build by myself.

Bill,
Its a 3" arm. I cannot tell you the offset required accurately though. I dont have any accurate way of measuring it.
Scott has all the dimensions and will go from there.
Distance from the output shaft to the hinge line, bevel sweep etc..

I just sold a Wild Hare Extra to a friend that crashed his WH Edge this past weekend, makin room for the EF YAK. It seems like I've been on the waiting list for 2 yrs. Who wrote that proverb......."all things come to those who wait long enough". Anyhow, thanks to Chris's persistance getting us the good stuff.

Wayne,
what prop are you going to use with your YAK???

since I am going to run the stock muffler like you ( I want my plane lighter ) I want to buy a another prop! I have a 22x10 but, I dont want to use that one! I dont want my plane to fly fast! also with a plane this light I think it will be difficult to slow it down!

I am thinking on a 22x8... what do you think?? everybody its talking on props for a tune pipe set up! but no one talks on the prop to use with stock muffler!

Jose,

I am going to break the motor in with a Mejzlik 22x10 and then switch to a Menz-S 24x8
The plane will slow down for landing with no trouble. If its light it will land slower than a heavier plane.
Dont worry about landing this thing. Its a piece of cake.

IMO, If you are worried about the Nylon Servo wheel,

Use a Uni-Hub from Wild Hare and use the supplied phenolic pull pull arm that comes w/ the kit.

Patiently waiting on a "Slow Boat from China".

Wayne,

how much ground clearance is there going to be with the 24" prop?? I need at least 2 inches for my bumpy grass POS field.

I better call and put down a payment on mine.

I guess this plane its going to land just lke my bigger planes! I had a Patty Wagastaff that was a pain in the but to land!

but with this incredible wing loading I think its going to be a feather to land! I was asking the cuestion about the prop becouse I had a 22x10 on the patty and was dificult slow it down! of course the engine was new and the idle wansn´t as good as it is right now that it is well break out.....

My quess is that the prop wasnt the reason that plane didnt want to slow down.
Wing loading.

Mike,
Ground clearance isnt a problem with a 24" prop. Chris has been using that prop on this plane for a while.

would the engine over rev with the Mejzlick 23X8? i was told that is a good 3D prop for the DA-50, but i don't know if that was with a standard muffler, canister, or tuned pipe.

Thanks,
Scott

Have followed this thread all the way from start. Must say that Chris has put together a great kit with all the best stuff and I'm glad I got on the list for this plane. I fly out of a small club and can't wait to see our members drool when this work of art shows up.Would like to thank all of you for all the good advice on the build plane and the detailed info. you all gave for this plane. It's great to have so many people willing to share all they know and help us all become better pilots.
