Yarom,
It should be 3" standoffs.
cshepherd,
The manual states that the motor must be mounted 6-13/16" from the firewall. If your within that range with the ZDZ you should be fine. Joeairport here on RCU uses a ZDZ on one of his. He might be a good person to PM and find out as I've never used this motor.

Hi guys, yeah I used the ZDZ 50 NG on the Edge. Can't remember the stand off length on that exactly but I used 3" on the DA so the ZDZ was prolly like 2" or so. The ZDZ is a longer engine from mount to prop hub. The 50RV is identical dimensions as 50NG.
So here we go....
ZDZ 50RV is 136mm or approx. 5 3/8" from mount to prop hub face. 6 13/16 - 5 3/8 is about 1.5" which is your stand off length. Keep in mind that the ZDZ 50NG rear induction carb sticks out 44 mm or 1.73" past the engine mount tabs so the firewall will need to be cut out to clear the carb, no biggy at all. Hole saw will do it in seconds. Did this on my Edge for the DA 50, and worked great for the 50NG.
I might get one of these Extras....what the actual weight with these light 50cc engines? 17 pounds or so? Like the Edge?
http://www.rcshowcase.com/html/dimensions.html
The overall length from prop hub to rear of carb is 7.09".....remember that the choke butterfly needs to stick out past that when the choke is completely open. If you drill out the firewall with a big hole it will be fine. The Edge's firewall was so HD it didn't weaken it even 1%.

Joe AP, Thanks for the measurements. As you stated, it is right about 1.5" for the standoff. When the plane arrives and when I'm allowed to start working on it[:@], I will drill the hole in the firewall for the carb clearance. No biggie.

RE: BME Aircraft 30% Extra330L
Joeairport, my extra is exactly 17 pounds empty. I am running a Brillelli 60 so I am 4 ounces heavier than a da-50. But with the Brillelli I can run a single cell lipo for ignition and save most of the weight back. My extra flies just like a big foamie and will hover at 1/4 throttle without effort. I have flown several other planes inthe same size, and this is by far the best flying, and for the new price I might have to get another for a spare!! I am flying sportsman IMAC with it and it does everything great like a extra should, and it excels at the point type manuevers,( slow rolls, four and eight point, rolling circles, anything you can imagine ) a real bargain in my book.
If you can't see it, don't hand me the controls!!

All, I'm putting my list of goodies needed together and did not see it mentioned in the build thread... what were the lengths of servo extensions needed for this plane? I'd prefer to not splice in wire.
Thanks!
Thanks!

cshepard,
If you go to the bme website, you can download the manual and get the servo extensions required and add the length of a standard servo lead and make your own if thats what you do. I would still use a three inch lead from the receiver for the two aileron leads to ease plugging in. Get one, you will love it!

RE: BME Aircraft 30% Extra330L
I really like PAU/BME's customer service.
I own a Extra 330L and a Cap Maniac (Flew the heck out my first one and decided to purchase another recently).
Any issues that come up are handled with great customers responses. I had a accident this summer with my Extra and they were prompt in sending me the new parts that I needed.
I really hope that they keep this airplane even though the Factory is copying them and selling them thru other outlets.
If I had the money right now I would purchase a second unit just to have as I do like this plane.

We're working very hard on new items and even if we do not keep this Extra around, our future aircraft will be even better.

Lots of 50cc engines will work. DL 50, 3MM TOC 53, Brillelli 60cc.
Hitec 5955 all around.
NoBs 1950 on the rx, 1400 on the ignition. JR/Cermark HD switches.
SWB servo arms.
Servo extensions.
What else?

Avatar, I would recommend more than a standard servo for the throttle. Most standard servos that come with radios aren't up to the vibration that a 50cc gas engine can put out. I would recommend something with a little more heft, though you certainly don't need a 120+oz servo for throttle.
