RE: The BEST Smoke System
I've got a Don Harris pump and it works good but I'm running it off the receiver packs too. It's probably not going to be a problem but I'd rather split it off to it's own pack and add a speed control to it to get rid of the pinch valve. Any advice on how to set this up?

RE: The BEST Smoke System
guys i just checked tower hobbies price for shipping the 49.99$ 5 gall jug of superdri, and its only 8$ ! I thought they would charge more!
so unless i can find some Al mag oil here for that cheap (which isn't going to happen) i'm going to order up. thats 11.6$ a gallon = five 24 oz tanks per gallon = 2.32$ for each tank of smoke. not too bad.

I am having a problem with my smoke system maybe someone can help. I have used the follow system http://www.greathobbies.com/technica...ce8ece3fc03e13 . there is plenty of smoke however when i cut the throttle back it kills the engine. I have moved the injection nipple more towards the end of the muffler now ther is not enough smoke. How far from the head should i plae the injection nipple......

RE: The BEST Smoke System
HI all, I just received a 3w smoke pump with no instructions ?
Since I have never used a smoke pump, I have a few questions, but first I'm putting in a 35% extra with a 3w 100 plus a JR 10x
1, is this pump proportional
2, what is the best channel to operate the pump, on/off or on a dial
3 should I just use a mix to operate the pump.
Thanks Rcpete

RE: The BEST Smoke System
yes use a mix. since you've got the 10x you can use whatever channel and just about any switch you want, right? use the one you know you don't need. use a switch not a dial.... mix the channel of your choice to the throttle and put in more smoke oil the higher the throttle. But not that much. start with small numbers so you don't go through a tank in 2 min cause your rate is too high. play with it on the ground before you fly it. Thats all i can say, i've never used the 3W pump but hope it works out for ya.
i couldn't find the manual online, i looked a little bit

RE: The BEST Smoke System
The usual method is to have a throttle mix on a seperate channel to the smoke pump. I have the MZ pump which works the same way as the 3W iirc and this is the way i have it set up. You will find you need to have the mix setup so the pump does nothing at idle, then pumps up to max smoke flow from about 1/3 throttle up to full. You will also find you need a flow rate alot lower than you might expect, you actually get more smoke from less fluid up to a certain max efficiency point. For eg on my DA100 with the MZ pump i only need 20pct of max flow to get the most smoke volume, and my 24oz smoke tank lasts about 5-6mins.

HI all, well since the 3w smoke pump came with no setup instructions, I"ve wasted 3 hours trying to set it up. I cann't make my JR10x turn it off and on, I"ve tried programmable mixes to no avale.
I"d like to use the retract switch.
Any help would be appreciated.

RE: The BEST Smoke System
hmm, has the 3w pump got a 3-pos switch on it. I know my MZ one has and one position is off, the other two are on forward and reverse (as in JR pulses vs Futaba pulses). If it has a switch fiddle with it see if it works, or it may have an adjustable pot like the MK pumps.

RE: The BEST Smoke System
I use a 3W pump,,,i have mine set up on 9Cap on a slide on the side,,you have to set the end point on the bottom to 0,,or it will get power,,on mine i have it set to about 30% tops,,makes tons of smoke,,,hook your pump to a Aux channel and play with the end points you should get it to work.

RE: The BEST Smoke System
Allso im not sure,,but on the 9Cap you can control the flow of the pump with the radio useing one of the sliders,,not sure about JR ,,if you pay attention there is a little LED on the bottom of pump,,,,you can adjust the endpoints to make this light bright or dim,,dim being turned down,,bright, pump is wide open,,so you can control the pump speed.the 3W pumps wide open,,put out way to much smoke,,im running mine on a 106 set at 30%,,puts out tons of smoke.

RE: The BEST Smoke System
That's a sweet looking $100.00 3W smoke pump / system. Do you know how much it weighs and how much pressure it can develop? I was thinking of injecting the smoke fluid into a misting nozzle, after preheating it, to help make greater smoke in my Satio .125. I don't think the cooler running glow 4 stroke will produce adequate amounts of smoke without some tricks. Thanks.
