Another 540 Edge Thread

Three, I don't really care if you believe me or not, but as I said mine is a 1/4 540 and the other three were Lasers. Fact are facts, and although it is weird, that 4 airplanes all had the same problem, it happened whether you chose to believe it or not. I suggest you get one, and when you have problems, call Bubba at Lanier and then tell me what kind of experience you had. Be sure to ask for Bubba.

AAH, I see now what the problem is: This is for the lanier 30%...The lanier 1/4 is built entirely differnet and yes, it was known on the first run that it had a soft wood gear problem. I was worried that you had a gear problem with the 30%...Now that that is cleared up I can rest easier. If you look in the arf forum it has many links to your 1/4 scale gear problem.....

Ok Guys heres my motor mount, I turned these mounts on a lathe and now would like your opinions.
Do you think it will put excessive strain on the firewall?
I plan on beefing up the support of the wall.
Any commets are welcome, good or bad, Thanks.

Akflyer: Thanks for the responce. How did you brace the firewall, did you use tri-stock? I'm thinking og using 3/4 sq. hardwood so I have plenty put dowel pin into. Any problems assoc. with the engine being on the standoffs? Thanks for posting your picture, its nice to see somebody else has the same ideas.

BigBird,
The dowels are in use all over the country and I have not read one post of a failure. My first one took on a half a dozen pine trees at full throttle and, while the plane lost the battle, the firewall and stand offs were unscathed. We have three of them built the same here and no sign of trouble on any of them. My buddy has his ZDZ 80 in his cap mounted the same way and no problems after 15 gallons.
I used 1/2" spruce triangle and BBQ skewers (bamboo) to pin the firewall.

Akaflyer,I stand corrected. I have been told in the past that anything over about 1 1/2" would not hold up and that aluminum should b used . I am always up to learning better ways.

I flew it today, WOW........................................The g-62 works fine for me for power vertical for quite sometime.....Lands on a dime but had 20mph winds so landed hot....I am perfect on the ground but in the air she gets rich...I am losing about 1500 rpm..I think the air hole in the bottom of the carb is sucking to much from the prop..I was told be a imac guy to soldier a small piece of brass tube in the hole and extend line back to cowl...

Gordo, have you ever seen the mounts, and firewall on any of the V-MAR ARF's? They have adjustable firewalls for different engines, and yours looks a whole lot better. I don't think you will have any problems.

Sh*T that makes since, Dont know what I was thinkin. I turned the velocity stack the right way and installed the little fuel tube anyway on the hole in the bottom of the carb...Going to test it out again this thursday..Even though the wind was bad before, I sure liked the way this plane flew..For all of you that were wandering a G-62 works fine on this plane!
