Default RE: Tuned Pipe throttle question

Hi!
You don't have to set up a tuned pipe!!!!!
Most pipe systems are plug and play!
Like the JETT , Nelson or MVVS systems! On these systems there is nothing to adjust ! Just mount the pipe and go! What you have to adjust is the choice of prop size, fuel (nitro content) tank system and glow plug .
Here is what I recommend from 30 years of competing in pylon racing.

1.Get a 240cc (8oz) Tettra "Bubbleless tank"!

2. Second best: Get an ordinary R/C clunk tank( 240cc tank), preferably set up with two clunks (called Uni-flow set up) This system with two clunks gives more even fuel pressure delivery to the carb.

3. Mount the tank according to the tank mounting rule!

4. Use 5% nitro fuel!

5. Use a good plug like a Enya 3 or 4. or Nova Rossi 4or 5.

6. Use a good prop like a RAM , Graupner "Cam-prop" or APC! Please not MA or Kyosho!

Thank you for that information. I think I did something similar when I initially set mine up. I did use the prop I intended to run, and not a smaller pitch one to simulate unloading however.

My initial setup was on a 10x6 APC prop and 10% Nitro. With a Mac's 1 piece muffler it was tached (max) at 13,400 RPM. That gave me a baseline of what I wanted to improve upon.

I set a goal to gain 1000 RPM and move up 1 pitch size to a 7. Now perhaps this seems fool-hearty, or conservative, but it was my goal.

Replacing the 10x6 with a 10x7 APC I installed a Mac's header, sleeve and pipe. It took 4 runs, measured by a tach to achieve the 14,500 RPM. After each run I removed .25" of header for a total of about 1". The final run resulted in a nice transition from idle to WOT.

Granted, the motor mav have more in it (RPM wise) but I figured a conservative tune was better then nothing. If you feel what I did may be part of the problem I am having (WOT misfire) let me know and Ill start from scratch.

Jan,

I beg to disagree with the maroon colored statement.

The examples that you gave; the JettStream, the UltraThrust (and to a lesser degree, the MVVS tuned mufflers), are hardly full-length tuned-pipes.
They are 'set and forget', but the first two are more limited in the range of props they can be used with.

Even a full-length pipe claimed to be pre-tuned, really isn't and it can be tweaked for length, if top performance is desired.
