Default Perry pump and carb

I decided to try out a Perry pump and carburetor.

I got them in today and was kind of disappointed.

First was that the carb has a plastic body. I thought they where cast aluminum.

Then when reading the direction on the pump I learn that they can't be used for air-bleed type carbs, (I knew that) or Perry non-pump carbs. (Hugh? This is news to me).

So, I paid $40 for a plastic carb that I can't use with the pump.

I really don't understand making a line of carbs that can't be used with the pump you make.

I'd have designed the regular carbs to be used with or without the pump. The difference being that the pump carbs would have a over sided venturi for more power.

I guess they have thier resones.

It's off to the junk drawer for this carb.

They do make a pump carb, it has finer fuel passages and a larger venturi, the pump carb won't work without a pump.

Scroll down to the pump carb. The material is something much better than plastic, it won't wear out.

They do make pump calibrated carbs in nearly every size, you just selected the wrong carb. You can't return the one you have for the one you need?

Pump carbs always have metering calibrated to work with the pump, OS, webra, perry, etc.

Thanks Hobbsy.

Yeah I looked over the site. What I don't see is that "pumps can't be used with regular carburetors" on thier site.

Luckily this carb was to up-grade a carb on a Super Tigre GS-45. So I can just use the stock carb since it has twin needles.

I would have bought the pump carb if,

1 Tower had them in stock

2 The data section stated that regular carbs do not work with pumps.

3 Could order from the Perry web page. You have to call in orders and give your CC number to some random person. (I'd rather use paypal)

Up date. Well I kept the non-pump carb and used a Iron Bay fuel regulator with it and it worked really well. The little Super Tiger GS45 handles like a gas engine now.

One quality related problem I did encounter with the carburetor. The throttle arm broke wile I was adjusting it's position. I was tightening the screw when it popped. I was using a jewelers screw driver with index finger and thumb and never felt any back pressure as if I was crushing the arm.

The arm is similar to the arm found on OS FP engines. It's a hard brittle plastic that looks to me like it wouldn't have stood up to much use.

Looking at it reminded me of an servo control arm. I had some nice Du-Bro deluxe control horns in a drawer so I pulled one out and fitted it to the carburetor.

It worked out perfectly and looks like it was made for the carburetor. Being made of a thick fiberglass reinforced nylon I have no doubt that this arm will last. I'll be upgrading all my Perrys this way.

Servo arms are indeed handy, I keep all the extras O can get. They make good, "Swing levers" where carbs are too close to or above the firewall.

Looks good! as well as your Telemaster. I know that is a joy to fly with the Saito in the nose.
