Default MDS 2.18 And A Cline Regulating Pump?

Is there anybody out there running a Cline regulating pump on this engine and if so, is there any problems or anything that I should be aware of before I make this purchase. I was planning on running large fuel line but I noticed on the cline web site all you need to run is medium fuel line. Should I run medium line or should I run large on this size of a motor? I was also, planning on running a large clunk with large brass coming out of the fuel tank, Do I still need to do this or with running the Cline regulating pump I only need Medium line and small brass? Also, I was wondering where you mounted the Cline pump if it was inbetween the carb inlet and the remote needle or is it before the remote needle? And how did you mount the pump is it soft mounted or is it hard mounted to the engine some how. Any help on this subject would be appreiaciated.

First of all you've apparently been reading about Perry pumps? They are a pump with a pressure limiting device.

The Cline is a demand regulator or a balanced Zero regulator. There's no pump to it. You have to tap the crankcase and use the supplied duck bill check valve to pressureize the tank and force fuel to the engine. There's no pressure on the outlet of the regulator. There has to be a slight suction for there to be any flow through it.

I've seen the Cline's rigidly mounted between the remote needle and the carb. The Cline should be as close to the spraybar as possible, whatever you do. But it's actually better to have the needle valve after the Clane than before it but I think you can get by?

If you use the big fuel line, you will ned to run big tubing in your tank as well as the big pick-up. You are going to have to use clamps on the fuel line at the Cline. Its also best to use the clamps elswhere. Not everyone uses the big fuel line though.

Enjoy,

Jim

I have run the Cline on my MDS 2.18 and one of my MDS 1.48s, I prefer mounting the regulator body on the carb and use the remote needle. The MDS remote needle does not leak or weep when exposed to the tank pressure the crankcase pressure produces. The MDS 2.18 really produces good pressure, bulging the tank more than a YS does.

The CLINE regulator is almost a necessity for the MDS 2.18 and other larger 2 stroke engines. I'm thinking of putting one on my MDS 1.48 in order to eliminate the impact of changing fuel tank levels during flight.
