I cannot get the above engine to run long.It only seems to run till it burns all the fuel that I put in the carb to start it.The (H) needle is turned out 2 1/2 turns and I do not know how far the (L) needle should be turned out.I read a post about closing the (L) needle and putting a fuel line on the nipple where the fuel enters the carb and blowing and backing out the (L) needle until I hear air but this does not seem to work for this engine. It has very good compression. Thanks MJ

Disconnect your fuel line from the carb. Look down in the barrel of the carb and open it up a little to its approximate idle position. Once done, attach a separate piece of fuel tubing to the carb. Now blow into the tube and at the same time, open your low end until you here a hissing noise. This will set your low end in the ballpark area. Sounds to me like its closed to much.

Cyclic gives good advice.

If you want to look farther, take the carb out of the crankcase and look back up through the venturi from the bottom. There is a cat-eye looking slit in the spray bar. This slit should be looking directly at you when you look up into the venturi. Also you can see the end of the low speed needle? It should be half way accross the slit when the throttle is held wide open.

If you get it running with the high speed and low speed set correctly, if you still cannot get the mid range to not be rich-- as a last resort, loosen and twist the spraybar a slight amount one way or the other and see what the mid range is like. Make sure that you have marked the center position of the spraybar before you move it though.

Be careful to not create any air leaks or your troubles will just begin.

Good luck,

Jim

One other detail i noticed. I have 3 supertigers, 45,90 &3250. Now there really is no magic number to turn out the low end. What I have noticed on mine is all 3 have to be turned out 3-4 turns before i get any hissing noise where as most other engines are alot less. If your low end is not turned out enough, you will not draw fuel and it won't start.

Did you check to see if the ventury is pointed to the rear bolt???

MJ,

Try to run the engine using an external tank (preferably on a test stand). What you are describing sounds like a fuel draw issue. Make sure your fuel lines aren't reversed and your pressure nipple isn't clogged. Start again with a new glow plug and a fresh batch of fuel.

Default Thanks All

Thanks everyone. The engine is running now.Problem was I thought that I could just adjust the fuel nipple any way I wanted for the fuel line to come to it as straight as possible.I did not know that by doing this I was messing with the midrange. The engine was on a test stand and I knew it ran good because it ran good before until I changed the position of the inlet nipple. Thanks again MJ
