Default How do you stop the engine?

Once you land the plane, how do you stop the engine? I can't seem to find a cut off switch or anything of that matter. Do you have to run it until it just runs out of fuel or something? I know this may sound like a pretty stupid question, but I reall do have no clue, and the way I figure it, better to look like a total fool on the internet than infront of a lot of seasoned pilots at the local club, right? You should set up your throttle so that the carb is all but closed (1/16th-ish inch open) when throttle is fully down. Then, you use the trim to close the carb all the way. In most cases, during starting, flying and idle, the trim should be all the way up. You pull it (the trim) down to kill the engine. Then when you are done for the day - you should run it out of fuel or do the fuel line pinch to clear the engine of fuel. Anyone elses thoughts?

It depends on what engine you have on it but we wont go into all of that. I am assuming you probobly have a standard glow engine so you can reach behind the engine and pull the line that feeds the carb or pinch it until it shuts off (the same place you fuel it at) and WATCH THOSE HANDS. Most computerized radios have a cut switch on them that can be programmed to shut the motor off but dont worry with that right now.

If you use the throttle trim for idle adjustment make sure it closes your carburetor all the way when down. Set the idle with the trim up so that when you pull the trim back it shuts off the engine. After shut down pull the fuel line off the carburetor and run the engine dry. Be careful with your thumbs while in fllight so that you don't accidentally close the carb.

If the carb linkage is set up right...

The engine will start at 0 throttle stick position, and full throttle trim position.
The engine will Idle OK as low as 0 throttle stick and 1/2 throttle trim
The cab will be FULLY closed at 0 stick and 0 trim. (make sure the servo doesn't buzz... if it does... adjust the linkage)

(assumes no digital trims... this is why I don't like digital trims. We NEED the mechanical ratcheting trim on throttle)

When the main stick and the trim are both at full the carb will be WIDE open and the servo won't buzz.

With this setup... unless you want the engine to die in the air, fly with the trim at full, and control the engine with the main stick. When taxiing, you may need to have the trm a little less than full... after you take off... push the trim all the way up. That little bit it prevents the carb from opening from being pulled back won't reduce the take-off power enough to reliably easure with a tachometer... so don't play with throttle trim unless you have altitude to allow you to fumble a bit.
