Default New Moki problem.

I am having alot of trouble starting my Moki 2.10. Here are the details.

Brand new Moki 2.10
K&B1L plug
Byron 0% FAI fuel
3 oz castor added to the fuel
Iron bay regulator.

Hard as heck to start. I choke it until it has fuel dripping out of the carb. In order for me to start it I have to turn the high speed needle almost all the way in. Then once it starts It's way too lean. I have to back out the needle about 3 turns for proper operation. Any Ideas anybody?

In what position is the engine mounted? It the engine is upright and the middle of the gas tank is higher than the carb needle, you could be flooding the engine because fuel is dripping into the carb before you start it. That would explain why you can start it after closing the high speed needle. If the gas tank level is set up right, the high speed needle will have no affect on starting the engine.
I like to mount my engines upright and I use a prime bottle so that I can put a few drops of fuel into the carb to start. I choke the carb only to see that the fuel is brought up to the carb. My engines hand start with a couple of flips with this method.
Sorry, I did not notice at first that you are using an Iron Bay regulator. I have no experience with that regulator. Try disconnecting it and using the above method.

I don't think a Moki can ever get flooded, I actually squirt fuel strait into the carb when I fire mine up the first of the day. It loves to start wet. However, the regulator I suspect is causing problems.

I don't run a regulator on my Moki 180, my friend DID (Cline regulator) and his plane ended up broken into a couple pieces, he now since removed the regulator he hasnt had a problem since. He goes by DGrant here on RCU if you want to talk to him about his problems.

The regulator will prevent the engine from flooding. The fuel tank is mounted about 18" behind the engine and a few inches below it. I ended up running about 3 more tanks through it and it got a little better each time. I will run a gallon through it at the field on Sunday and see what happens. I will report back.

People tend to forget that it is a long way from the carb to the combustion chamber in those big engines, as short said you can hardly flood them. I run four Clines and one IronBay regulator and they don't break planes in two, but they sure do make engines run well from full tank to empty. When the fuel appears at the carb on my MDS 2.18, I flip it three more times with the carb wide open and my finger over the carb, then three really quick flips still with the carb wide open but not choking, and then close to just above idle, one smart backflip starts it 99% of the time.
