Dave likes to use the standard saito feeler gauge which is 1mm i think, i've thrown mine out because if i remember right, and feel free to correct and/or elaborate the old cast iron car engines had big valve lash set as standard because the valve gap CLOSED as the engine came up to proper operating temps. From what i've read here in the past our single piece barrel/head aluminium saito engines expand (get taller) in the opposite direction when the come up to proper operating temp, so the valve gap GROWS. I've never had a burnt valve yet while setting the gap with a cigarette paper, or if you like feeler gauges .002 when cold. Anybodies thoughts welcome also.

Thanks for asking Pete, the rod came today, the engine is assembled, it looks a little like Johnny Cash's psychobilly Cadillac with it's various and sundry parts. It will run great though.

Hey Jim, how are you? You would have to use the carb from a larger engine, the venturi in the FG 11 is pretty small for glow operation. It should work very well with a little carb matching. Tomorrow I could measure the carb on the 62 and the 11.

I'm looking at this LT-40 setup and thinking, what is wrong with this picture. I forgot you have the ARF which doesn't have the cowl cheeks like the kit, but a full cowl instead.

Never seen the ARF version. Didn't even know they had one. The kit practically puts itself together anyhow.

I still need to clean up the 45, but needed to get it installed to fit the cowl.
Looks like I need either a new set of locking nuts, or one of those spinners, just have to find the thread size.

OOh I have one of those! Have to look and see if I have one of those spinner nuts too. I find they come in handy on these smaller planes. They don't look too out of place and work well with starters.

thanks guys I read you every day and learn a lot also you almost have me talked into a glow saito I have mostly gas. I picked this hog up over on rc groups tor $225 new in the box.

Ugh, $225. grrr. I bought a pair of them for my B-25. Could not find any in the groups at the time. Sweet running engines though. Ran mine for over a half hour on the bench and used maybe 2 ounces if that. About 2 hours of run time and they will hand start on one or two flips.

I also have the black and white one, which has been married to several different engines, an Enya 53-TN, a Saito 56 and 62. It's several years old.

I had one like that too, except it was the kit version with cowl cheeks. It had a TT 40 Pro with a Tower 46 Tuned Muffler. Still have the engine, the plane was converted to confetti. So sad.

Mine was the kit too with out the cowling, I was thinking in terms of the color scheme. It was the first project after returning to the hobby after a 24 year hiatus.

Dave i'm a big johnny cash fan and the psychobilly cadillac reference cracked me up. Now, here's my colour theory on your fa82. If you had a good wine cellar, and you were aging expensive old wines down there you wouldn't be popping the corks for a sniff once a week would you? so cowled or uncowled your/any, saito is going to go a nice even beautiful bronze colour with age if you run a little castor...ever seen a standard cast saito muffler when they only use synthetic? covered in black ashy goo that looks like a horrible sausage bbq after the gas bottle exploded.

Sure enough, look at this 125 muffler laying beside a 115 muffler. over night in the crock pot on low makes them beautiful again, over night on high makes them an ugly dark grey forever. I have the newer 125 muffler sealed up with fake Swak, so far so good. I too am a Johnny Cash fan, and a Slim Dusty fan, I listen to the Willie Nelson channel on Sirius Radio, they play great Country Music but not just Willie's.
