RATS!!! Was hoping to get my Corsair running and final tune for it's maiden, but yesterday sustained 30 MPH winds, and today is not much better. I have the door to my bedroom open for fresh air and when going through the inside door, the wind is so strong I have to push against the door so it doesn't slam the stops off. Currently registering at 20MPH sustained. Guess I will go work on my boat instead, can't cut the grass either as it will blow all over as I cut it. Yesterday if I cut the grass it would wind up somewhere in Wisconsin.

It stopped raining here and turned out to be a nice humid day. I would be out flying but my flying strip is very wet. I decided to get out my test stand and run the Saito 45 engines I’ve been playing with.

I ran all three of them on my 3% nitro, 18% oil fuel. I used the same Master Airscrew 11X6 prop on all of them and the same OS F plug.

FA45 number 1 had a peak of 8900 RPM with an idle at 2200 RPM

FA45 number 2 had a peak of 9100 RPM with an idle at 2400 RPM

The Saito 45 Special had a peak at 10400 RPM with an idle at 2100 RPM

The 45 Special is the clear winner.

All of these engines were bought used and I have no idea of the history on them. I’ve totally disassembled them and cleaned them. They all have new bearings. The standard FA45 seems like a dog when compared to the 45 Special.

Saito 115 and 125 mufflers, a huge difference for 0.1 cubic inch difference in displacement.

Early Saito FA 30 (Open rocker)
Bore===19.3 mm
Stroke==17.0 mm
Late Saito FA 30-s
Bore====20 mm
Stroke===16 mm

Just for kicks.

Thanks Mike, I will look forward to getting the box. I ordered a K&N exhaust for my truck, I'll have that little project to do also. We just can't leave things stone stock can we?
I had my fourth photon bombing today, so far it's been a non event.

I upgraded the suspension on my 1 YO 5th wheel with less than 1000 miles on it. I can't believe the wear on the shackles already, glad I upgraded. Also upgraded the rear suspension on my F350 with Roadmaster Active Suspension and new shocks. The ride is a 100% improvement. Hope this weekend to get the 50 gallon replacement tank in and get rid of the dinky 26 gallon tank. Still waiting on the Disaster Prevention kit, was hoping to have it by now so I could tackle both fuel system upgrades in one shot.

I hope one day to put some time aside when the winds are light to finally run up the Corsair and hope I got it all right, taking the cowl off is a pain.

Oh that sounded sweet. Hoping I can get mine run up and ready in the next week or two. Trying to get heavy projects out of the way. Replaced the 26 gal fuel tank on my F350 with a 50 gallon one this weekend. I must have cracked the return elbow as it leaks when topped off. If I did, I know when. I also have the other side of my RV suspension to upgrade, put a Morryde cushioned equalizer on and a wet bolt kit. Good thing too, the OEM, even though it has less than 1000 miles was already showing wear. Other than a DPK and new motors and gear for the mirrors, the heavy stuff for the tow truck is done. Have to get the Kubota and JD X500 ready for the season and change the oil in my truck and wifes car. Then some outdoor work, and THEN I can spend some play time with my Corsair.

guys, you know a few years back I gave up helis, just had enough of them. and my planes were old and beat up, but I had dreams for them all fixed up., well I had some extra money come to me so I could move forward and buy a new TX with the short antenna and a much better charger. I bought the planes and those engines. and a couple of you guys here helped me there with getting engines. and I thank you guys again for that.

well guys, I really hate to wright this post!!! but I feel it's time. after buying all that stuff, and getting those engines, last year my eyes started to go bad. and this year the problem has accelerated some. I got new lenses for my glasses 2 months ago, and now today I could use newer lenses again !!
the surgeon made me understand there was no telling how bad they will get. my eyes are growing longer. it's a natural thing that happens to many people. so she told me it can not be fixed or stopped. you know my older brother has the same problem and he is now all most blind. I however can see a rc plane in the air, I can even fly one. but I have trouble with fine detail.
so how bad ? the road in front of my house is 40ft from my house (I measured). the road is 2 lane, and I can see the trees on the other side of the road, but again, it's hard to see the fine detailing of the clumped-up branches and leaves and brush.
last summer I flew that World Models P-40, I thought it flew bad, I could not stay ahead of it, but my friend that flew it told me it flew well, like a P-40.
I have that 60 size VQ P-40 and the Midget Mustang. I have not finished them. I figure if I can't fly them why finish them. and my Son has showed me NO signs he wants to fly. you see he has only been with his wife 4 years and that is still new to him. so my eyes are frustrating and a bit depressing, so I don't push him about flying. the doctor has not taken my drivers license yet, but I told my wife a couple weeks ago that I will not drive again. told her we should put my Van up for sale. told her it will not be me that causes an accident with my bad sight..

anyway, I am going to get my ShoeString back up and fly that, I will see how that works out for me. she's not as fast as those P-40s or M-Mustang.

oh, my Daughter inlaw is going home to the Philippines to see her sick mother, she told me she will bring me back some candy. I said anything but no Balut.

hey Pete, you know I'm telling you the other day I saw a Roo, but then I said to myself "this is Vermont, a Roo ? naa, it must be a Rabbit, that explains the bright grey".

Jim

I'm deeply sorry to hear about your eye problem Jim! I'll keep you in my prayers. Even with failed eyesight I think I would just say no to the Balut too!

Mike
