I'd like to join this club as well if I might. I started accumulating Saito engines a year or two ago and suddenly find myself with a whole gaggle of 'em. I'm not even sure how it happened but I counted four 2.70 twins currently in inventory along with several radials. I don't think any engine company out there does multiple cylinder four strokes better.

I want to join, I want to join!!!!!!. I too owe a couple saitos and I just took the plunge and bought a saito 325 5 cyclinder radial. Tell me guys how does this thing run. I am waiting for delivery and I am running around the house like a mad a mad man, making engine noises and driving everyone crazy about my new engine.

If it's not a Satio it's not an engine. I've got a bunch of Satio's also and they all have been great. 56,72gk two 82's two 125's horizon has a great turn around also.

Does anybody use an on board glow starter. I need HELP with my sonic tronic twin setup.

i like the one from nelson hobbies, real simple set up. but it does seem to use more battery than they say. you could also install a switch on the throttle servo to contact at 1/4 throttle or any where you want.

Ha ha ha. Seriously, it will turn a 24x10 at 12,000 rpm if you can figure out how to run the prop in a vaccuum. Here at 800 ft ASL I get around that with a 13x8 or 14x6.

What size tank should I use for a Saito 82 that I'm putting on a [link=http://www.nitroplanes.com/yak543d5056n.html]Yak 54[/link] ?

The plane came with an 8.3 oz tank, but I think that may be too small for this size engine.

Hello Saito gurus. I have a new 25% Yak and it weighs 6LBS (ARF only obviously). I also have a Saito 1.80. Would you install the Saito 1.80 in this plane or consider an OS 1.60. What are the pros and cons?
I'll need plenty of 3D thrust because, well, I'm just not that great of a flyer. I'll have to take the Saito out of an Edge 540 which will make it worthless. I'm just wondering if I should sell the whole thing and get the OS.
I would appreciate any feedback and I hope I'm not breaking some Thread rule here. I haven't had time to read more than a fraction of this enormous thread so I hope no one takes offence to my sincere question.

A 16x8 prop is usually associated with two or four-stroke glow or gas engines in the 1.40 (23cc) to 1.60 (26cc) engine sizes. An .82 doesn't stand a chance of spinning one at 10k rpm.

The .82 Saito is happiest with a 13x6-7 to a 14x5-6. Or possibly a 14-15x4.

A Saito 1.80 is way too big for a 6 lb Yak. I have one turning a MA 18x6 Classic at 8800 rpm on a 15lb plane. I would think a Saito 1.00 would be plenty to hover that plane at about 1/2 throttle.

a 25% yak will not be 6lbs. what a/c is it? what are the engine specs? 1.80 should be good for a 25% 3d a/c.

I have a ~4 to4.5 kg (~10 to 12 lbs )Graupner ~23% semi scale Ultimate biplane 54 inch (1400mm)wing span meant for A 2 STROKE 90 OR 120 4 STROKE
I used first a 950 gram MVVS 26cc 2 stroke with a tuned pipe and 18*10 on 10% nitro no problems full power for uplines and mid power for level flight
Then I swopped out the engine for 950 gram Saito 180 (same weight dimensions as most 120 4 strokes )with a 18*6 on zero nitro and so far no problems and hover is a tad more than 1/3 gas and most flying is done on 1/4 gas with big tractor prop dictating the terms plane follows the prop with a lot less follow through than a whinny 2 stroke 90 with a small prop
You need to pay attension to fuel consumption if you use more than half gas as the Saito 180 eats fuel so I replaced the 16 onz tank with 20 onz and if the LHS had one I would have got a 24 onz but they didnt

I estimate ball park from static tests on half gas for the Saito 180 on a APC 18*6 with zero nitro 20% EDL oil( extra for running in ) that the cosumption is 1oz per minute

The flights at mostly 1/4 gas on 20oz tank of ten minutes when refilled have taken ~ 7 onz so on low regime it is about the same as a 90 engine

On punch out it is unlimited fast climbing 40mph plus and probably uses 2 onz per minute in full gas mode

On high nitro fuels the results will probably increase the fuel consumption again by 10 to 25% or more if it is very high nitro
putting a smaller or lighter prop on could reduce fuel consumption but a smaller prop on a smaller light weight plane might allow you to over speed the small plane and break it up where a large slow turning prop will act like a huge tractor prop making gobs of lift over the wings

I imagine a 25% acro plane would be OK on a Saito 180 if it is full gas for the up lines and careful use to slow down in the down lines but my guess is the weight will be more like 10 LBs probaby 12 lbs in that size

hey guys i know this most liky has been asked b4 but i cant not remenber the timming mark for a 125. i think it's piston at top dead center and timming mark at 6 o clock if any one knows would greatly help

Once the engine is broken in, you'll have plenty of flying time with an 8 oz tank. I generally fly for 10 minutes at a time and usually only refuel between flights because it seems sensible. I estimate 20 minutes with moderate throttle settings with your tank.

Does this sound about right to others?

Make it 4.... I would like in on the Saito Club ...please. I just got my 1st today, a 125 for a new TF P-51 .60 size....and I'm too xcited to sleep!
I bought this one "slightly used" from RCU, and have had experience with a Saito 100 in a buddy's warbird, so I have the basics down....one newbie question for the Saito post tho....do you see any performance difference in going from the stock muffler on a Saito 125a (mounted inverted) in going to a slimline pitts style? I bought a smoke ready slimline for a potential future upgrade to this plane, and not sure if I even wanna put a fire in the hole with the stock muffler if the pitts muffler will give me better flow/perf.

btw, the party should be in WI during our 8 weeks of summer....it isn't long, but it's sweeet!
