I need pushrods and pushrod sleeves for my 125.
It appears everyone is out of stock.
Will any other Saito have the same length pushrods?

bawls, here's a vendor in Illinois that says they are in stock: http://www.leisure-time.com/sai.htm Scroll down to SAI200TI39 for the pushrods.
The tube and seals are part number SAI90TS40. A search directs me to this vendor but I can't find them on the list. That list makes my head swim.
I think I found the tube and seals on the list. They have added a zero in front of the 90: SAI090TS40. They are shown to be in stock.

Jim, I had canceled the order for the 1.15 the other day but today Geri said to go ahead and get it, so it was shipped today. I'll probably get it Monday.

Thank you for the reply and photos. I just received all my parts from Horizon and will rebuild the motor tomorrow. I'll let you know how things go. Again thanks, it is greatly appreciated.

You're welcome Lou, the only picture that you really need is #2 where it shows the valves partially open an equal amount 360 degrees from the top of the compression stroke.

QUESTION PLEASE,
I have a question for you Club Saito guys. What kind of r.p.m. should I expect from a FA 150 swinging an 18/6 prop burning 15% Omega? I just purchased a used one here at RCU and when I put it on the test bench it peeked at 8000+- 50 r.p.m. That seemed a little slow to me but THE 18/6 prop is the recommended propeller for the scale airplane I plan to use it on. Your thoughts please from someone more experienced than I with this motor.

A friend and I tached his 1.80 with an APC 18 x 6W yesterday @ around 8,500-8,600 on 15% Powermaster. That's about as big a prop as I would feel comfortable with on the 1.80

Not sure which prop you are using, but that might be a little bit too big a prop for the 1.50 though?
8,000 max. is pulling it down a bit but that's in the ball park for that size engine / prop.
Maybe a 17 x 6 would also be worth a shot?

I'm just thinking that by the time you richen it for flight, it'll be down to around 7,600 or 7,700 or so...and that's kinda low IMO.

Do you know how much time is on your 1.50 kiwi?

Flying my 220 powered Extra yesterday, when I noticed the exhaust note change. On an inspection pass, I noticed the "innards" of the exhaust hanging perilously by the bolt. Of course, it fell out on final, and was lost forever. I had checked the exhaust for snugness, just not the muffler insert.

Does anybody make an aftermarket exhaust (besides Keleo) for the 220. If I have to pay HH $50 for a new one, maybe I'll just get something different.

Or...anybody have a muffler they want to get rid of cheap?

They said they expect them end of July. It's hard to be patient with the weather this perfect.

It's hard to believe that none of the other pushrods are the same...

I agree with Wy8e...

A 180 will turn a 18x6 ok but not a 150... My 150 would turn a 17x6 but only in the low 8K range. It ran much better 16.5x5 16x8 prop..

Good Luck,

Thanks to all that responded.
I gave Horizon a call also and got some very non committal info from them as well. It would seem that the the 8000 r.p.m. that I got is "in the ball park" for this engine and the Zinger wood prop I had on it. Horizon says they get 8800 r.p.m. from a 16/8 apc. My engine seems to run strong and the former owner claims he ran less than 3 gallons of fuel through it, so if properly cared for it should be fine. I will be mounting it on a Pacific Aero GeeBee Y and would like to swing as large a prop as I can because of the very large round cowling but might have to back off to something smaller in order to get the thrust/H.P. up. Thanks again for your responses.

Yes Sir,
I live right up the road from where he used to live. I knew him and he was a good man. We talked quite a few times, great man of Saito knowledge. I found out he had passed away while I was overseas, very sad. Take cae and have fun!

Hi,
First time on this thread. [sm=wink_smile.gif]
I have a Saito 150 in the GP Super Stearman. The engine is mounted upside down. The needle valve in below the center line of the tank and I’m looking for some ideas to recertify the siphoning problem. Dropping the 24 oz tank will still not get it below the needle valve.
I was thinking about putting in a smaller think (16 oz) with the stopper on edge (De bro) and turning it upside down. (?) Even doing this it will be close but not below.
Is there any problem putting tank upside down with the big side up?
I found a fuel controller that regulates the flow (it only allows fuel flow only when there is presure in the tank) but it is $60, there has to be a less expensive way to do it. (?)
I also found a fuel shut off valve, to turn off the fuel after flying. But, I’m not sure if the siphoning problem will effect the tuning and over all performance of the engine. (?)
Does anyone have any good ideas?
Thanks,
Shubova

silver,

I ran a 1.80 on my Geebee Y with a 18x6 APC. It had about two inches of prop past the cowling edge and did fine. The cowl will not cause a problem with a prop in the 16 inch range.

Note: The 1.80 pulled it well but was not a speed plane. If I did it over I would up the power.

Can anyone help me out here? I've got 2 Saito .72's with about a gallon of fuel through them. Neither of them will idle when I remove the glow driver. they run a few seconds and quit. adjusting the LSI screw seems to have little or no affect. Any Ideas O Saito GURUS!

Bob,

You did not mention the HS adjustment. Have you followed the tuning procedures? There have been several good tuning procedures mentioned earlier in this thread. Peak the high side and back it off 200-300 rpm and try it. This will give you a starting point and you can fine tune from there.

A back fire is a sign of being lean

Speaking of which, has anyone here ever run a 3.25 radial on the larger GeeBee from Pacific Aero? If so, how was it?

Paul,

You low speed may be too rich.
Hi BLW,

Last saturday I solved my idling speed problem.
First I fixed a bigger 18x6 Master Airscrew prop but the idling speed kept being erratic.
I tried to lean my low speed but it worsen; I then opened half a turn the LE needle and Tadaaa I got a steady 2800 idling speed.
And spool up was also OK.
So it was too lean from the start. Anyway thank you because you told me to have a look at the LE needle.
Now I'll try with a Graupner 16x8 because the engine seems to struggle a bit.

By the way, a wise guy in my club told me that all glow engine over .120 needs an onboard glow driver for the idling speed to be acceptable.
What do you think about that ?

Thanks,
Paul

Yeah, this weirdo says Saito engines are gaz guzzlers. He also says that the original (from the manufacturing plant) LE needle adjustment is correct and should never be modified. And he's not even able to correlate the two facts.
He only had a Saito engine once and got rid of it.
The problem is that he's our club president ! And this is why I am changing club. Saito Power !

No way,no help needed from onboard. I have a video of the 1.80 pushing a 18x6 Xoar at 8600rpm I can lean it out to 9200rpm.
The 18x6w is by far a better performing prop in the air. I can amaze people at the club with the idle performance on this INVERTED Saito with no help.Maybe I shoulda got video of it happily spinning at 1800 also.
I still have a couple props to experiment with but the iron bay craped out on me as I was expecting it too from mounting it so close to the Slimline pitts during the first setup.
The planes size seems such a hassle nowdays, as I can just slip a couple small 50sized planes into the trunk and take off for the field

BTW I get good performance and RPM numbers from my engines because I use Turbo Headers and 30% . Mods! Maybe a 5 angle grind will be next?
Jim will be getting a couple more orders from me this summer!

I have video of the 1.80 with Turbo Header in the air. But the landing was in the wheat. No Damage but the Iron Bay is leaking by now.

http://www.vimeo.com/1038668
And my little .82a with Tubo Header and 30% on a 14x4W .This is on the Extreme Flight 58" Extra which is hands down my favorite plane.
http://www.vimeo.com/1109195

Michael Hughes,

as you said SAITO POWER! [>:]

Also I dont know how I was doing it but I was getting 40min+ from a 13oz tank on the .82 when I first leaned the needles. I have yet to repeat that mixture setting?
Maybe it was a touch to lean ehhh? But felt good on the pockets
