I agree with Hobbsy about pliers. Some people should not be allowed to be around hammers either.

Hello Walther; I have had great success buying parts from Steve
Webb in England, the people there know their stock and have quite a bit of
old and unusual parts for Saito and Enya. I don't want to discourage you from seeking
your parts states-side, but I don't think you'll have any luck, as I haven't in the past.

Get some pressure and heat on the the collar just before your puller goes off center and tap the top of the screw with a hammer

I was very exited having just snapped up a nice Saito 125, or so I thought, I got a call from the LHS a day or two after making the order to tell me the prices would be going up and that my order would not be for-filled at the lower price, and would I like to continue with the order. I asked how much it would be at the new price, and was told it would be £285 ($422) which was a £100 ($148) rise on the price I had originally ordered it at. Now with this new engine and plane already stretching my budget slightly (coming from of birthday and christmas money), I had to cancel the order. I am now holding out, hoping for a drop in prices in the near future so I can afford to get a Saito.

I'm not a member of club saito, but would sure like to be. I need help, I have a Saito 82 and I can't seem to get it to run right. It acts like its out of time, it gets hot really fast like less than two miniets. I've adjusted the valves per the owners manual, that helped a little. I'm running YS20/20 fuel, and a 14X5 APC prop. I just inherited this engine and don't know alot about how it was run before. Any help wqould be appreciated.

How are you running the mixture?
Are you peaking the speed with the needle valve and then richening it back up a few clicks?

Try a 16x4W APC on your 1.25. I tried one and it worked well, but I actually prefer the 16x6. The 16x4W didn't give me as much speed as I wanted. It's really just personal preference, but if you want true 3D performance, you will probably like the 16x4W on the 1.25.
I haven't tried any 3D props on my 1.00. I have used a 14x6 and 15x6, and I prefer the 15x6. My 1.00 is on a Mustang, and it isn't a 3D plane.

Yes, I'm using a tach and backing off about 3 to 4 hundred rpm's from max. I've been flying rc for about 30 years, but fairly new to the four stroke side.

You are running a prop that shouldn't cause any over heating. there must be something wrong with the engine itself?
How does it feel when you turn it over? Is it rough or tight?

Thanks for the quick replies w8ye. Engine feels good bearings don't feel rough at all. Getting about 9400 RPM's, could probably get a few more but trying to get to run cooler. OUtside air temp this afternoon was about 45.

JW, I'm at a loss to the problem. There just has to be some internal friction to cause all the heat?
My used 125 that I purchased would run hot with a 16-6 so I ran a 15-6 on it for a while. But now it pulls the 16-6 just fine. It runs too fast with a 15-6.
Only thing I could figure is that in spite of the engine being used and looking like it had been flown some - it wasn't broken in.
I rebuilt a Saito 30 and put black grease around the cam and it ran hot until the grease got out of it through the crankcase vent

My 82 is my first 4st and my first Saito. I've had it a few months now and have about 40 flights on it.
Whilst generally ver happy with the setup, I was a little concerned with how much fuel I was using (Funtana 50) so last weekend I leaned the low needle as per advice here (almost a full turn until it was too lean and then backed out 1/8th).
I also leaned the high needle i.e. dropped the rpm about 300-400 from peak where I used to drop it 500.
It is now set to about 9,350 rpm with heli 30% at sea level (Sydney) and using an APC 15 x 4 prop so peak was close to 9,700.
I have only run the one tank through with the needles set here and I think the engine is running much hotter than previously.
I will keep it like this and see how it goes in flight on the weekend.
I note my experience and wonder if setting the low needle a little richer would help.

To stick my nose in here... had your engine been recently disassembled? I'm wondering if the timing could be off by one gear tooth. Just a thought.
And was that 45F or 45C (whew, that'd be awfully hot).

Thanks Guys, I do appreciate the input. N1EDM as far as I know the engine has never been disassembled, and it shows no signs of having been. The temp was 45F and I don't even want ot think about it being 45C. RC I'm runniong the engine with no cowl just trying to figure out what's causing it to get hot so fast. I may have found the problem last night will try to play with it this afternoon.

It only takes a fourstroke about 30 seconds to reach operating temperature, there is not a lot of mass there to warm up and they do run pretty warm to the touch. As Jim suggested, keep us posted, the more knowered we are the better. How do you like my new word?

I'm back with a vibration question.
I have a Dave Patrick Ultimate 120. I have mounted a Saito 150 and 180 horizontally on this airframe with the supplied carbonfiber mount. In both cases the mufflers have vibrated loose at the cylinder head. I have used the Saito stock muffler as well as the Turbo-Header muffler, through no falt of the muffler it also came loose. I have used plumbers tape on the threads as well as red lock-tite. AS soon as it hits 8000 rpm the muffler begins to rotate.
I have reinforced the firewall due to some fuel leakage impregnating the wood. I have dried the wood with K2R and Kitty-Litter.
It seems that the problem is engine vibration.???
Should I try the 180 with a Dubro Engine mount??? http://www.us215225.bizhostnet.com/dubro/00056.htm
It seems to me that this type of mount will allow the engine to vibrate more and airframe less???? Help here. Although a different vibration may help the situation.
