Dag Gone I got me a mess of stuff. Ok , I placed an order with Tower ( to use with a new Saito 1.25 engine ).

I probably should have called and talked to a sales advisor but .......naa

Ok, now heres the thing I dont understand all I know about:

I ordered those BRU LINE Filter Assembleys and some extra filter elements. Very nice but, how do you install the round rubber "o ring" of the filter over the square carb assembley intake?? The picture shows it fitting over the round part of the intake of an OS of some kind.
ie, what else do I need? I dont know but I think it may be an intake stack?? Or is an intake stack also a filter? DANG ! What do I get now.
Matter of fact, I ordered FOUR of the filters to do all my
Saitos........ It all used to be much simpler.....

I know this is a little stupid......but if you have a picture it will help this old boy like a 1000 words!

Some engines, like the K&B 61s in the first picture, have a nice cone to slip the rubber part over, and you're done as shown in the second picture.

Sad to say the Saito carbs, being designed originally to have a sliding choke valve, do not have this nice cone. You have to add the stack, as seen in the third shot. Then you just slip the rubber over the end of the stack, and put the element back in it. Fourth picture.

I just happen to have one in my hot little hands. It's part number SAI50GK93, and sad to say, it's only from Horizon. But happy to say, it's not expensive.

The one I have here now is going on an FA-82.

No , Im cool with Horizon. They are good folks. Granted, It would be nice to see Saito get a little less expensive but, just one more engine and Ill quit. Really.......just one more....one more plane and one more engine...........thats all............I can stop any time I want to!

Apologies. Just realized that not only had no one answered your question about the FA-180 and airframe weight, I had not assigned you a number here.

So you are now number 208.

The FA-180 is more than capable of hovering a 12-13 pound plane. Accelerating up from a hover wont be like a Saturn V rocket, bit it will be adequate.

HEY, CLUB SAITO, New guy on the block here,Ive got a few of these babies,first off the line is a goldberg ultimate 10-300 sporting a,need i say FA 100, swinging a 14x10 J ZINGER WOOD PROP, next in line is a HANGAR TWIST with a FA 65,SWINGING a J ZINGER 13X5 PROP, also got an OMP EDGE 540 PROFILE WITH A NEW "TODAY" FA 56, planning on somwhere in the range of a 12x4 or12x6 prop,see how it goes. Also saving my pennies for new power for my V2 KATANA 46, I believe there is a GK 82 IN MY FUTURE,That way i can get that other 4 stroke off my KAT. By the way,how would one go about getting EFLITE or HANGARNINE to make a mini TWIST designed exclusively for SAITO 30 ENGINES. HALF-A-TWIST....... WORKS FOR ME.

Thanks Jim,

The one I have is the only one I've ever seen. I bent the spray bay slightly, straightened it and now having trouble tuning it. Dunno if the spray bar is the cause, or something else. Without knowing what is different in the 'F' I'm not keen to order parts from the normal version.

My local hobby shops are only resellers, not much help on technical issues. Does Saito in Japan have a service center or e-mail contact? Thanks.

Further, I don't know about Malaysia, but we have a "Carb upgrade kit" available here, it includes all the fuel handling parts in the carb except the low speed adjuster.

Upgrade Carb, Rebuild Kit: 50-5
SAI50144 By SAITO ENGINES

You might check and see if your local shop can order it. Of course the part number there might be entirely different, too.

I'll check out that kit. I may have found my problem though, loose carb fuel inlet nipple and a tiny piece of crap inside the spray bar. I'll give it a new plug too, and see how it runs next weekend.

On the 72

There's been washers added under the backplate screws at one time.

The latest backplate has a fillet (Brace) added under the carb mount.

The "Squealers" I've run into have been the cam bearings. If it's in warranty send it to Horizon. If not, pop the back plate and set the engine nose down. Fill the crank case with your favorite after run oil and let it soak for a day or two, then try it again.

Before you fill it with oil look at the rear bearing, turn the crank and be sure it's turning correctly.

The early FA-72 back plate wasn't stiff enough, the carb would vibrate, and the intake pipe would eat its seal at the cylinder end. As Jim said, the new ones are changed in design, and are also made of a stiller plastic. The FA-82 uses the same part.
